Dogs are not just man’s best friend

Aside from being a furry pal, a dog can also serve as life support to people going through something or a reliable police dog that helps our mighty police officers.

Just like this Police K9 named Ghost.

The new addition to the police force of the Glynn County Police Department worked hard to be worthy of his title as a “police dog”.

Together with his human partner, Officer Garza, the aspiring furry law enforcer honed his skills at Highland Canine Training, LLC in harmony, North Carolina.

Ghost learned his lessons well and was then ready to be a part of the police force.

Ghost is a Belgian Malinois and is just the right breed for the profession. According to the American Kennel Club, this dog breed is “smart, confident, and versatile… a world-class worker who forges an unbreakable bond with his human partner.”

No credentials are needed because their breed alone says it all!

To train a Belgian Malinois, one must be ready because “Like most herding breeds, Malinois have a high prey drive and are strongly interested in moving objects. This trait can lead to chasing children, vehicles, or other animals and so should be directed into acceptable activities through training. Early socialization and obedience training are musts.”

But what does a police dog actually do during police operations?

I believe most of you already knew what a police dog or “K9” does in the police force.

Obviously, not all dog breeds can be police dogs because they perform extremely dangerous tasks when they’re in action. The police force only picks the best of the best breeds when choosing a dog to train.

A dog must have the force to execute a task and the focus to accomplish it. After all, police operations are oftentimes life-and-death situations and there is no room for mistakes.

Officer Garza right here did the right choice when he selected Ghost. This hunky paw-lice dog looks like he’s ready to be deployed in a police operation anytime.

After all the strenuous and relentless training, Ghost was finally ready to be an official member of the police department.

Just last month, afternoon of April 26th, Glynn County Police Department’s Chief of Police Battiste took the privilege of doing the “swear in” ceremony of Ghost.

With his human partner and trainer, Officer Garza, the soon-to-be police dog was about to do the taking of the oath.

With his right hand raised, Chief of Police Battiste reads the oath, “Repeat after me, Officer Ghost. I, Ghost, do solemnly swear or affirm that I will uphold the Constitution of the United States.”

However, just when he needed to behave, Ghost’s playful side came out and became the ceremony’s notable moment.

Ghost started goofing around like a pup asking for some cuddle and snuggle. He was licking and wrestling the chief officer who was helpless during the “attack”.

Right at that moment, he must’ve realized that he was about to be a police dog so he went off unleashing his “dog side” for the last time.

In the end, when the adorable “swear in” video of Ghost was uploaded online, a lot of people liked it and extended their congratulatory messages to the newly appointed K9 of the Glynn County Police Department.

Good job and take care on your journey, Ghost!
