Adorable K9 refuses to go to work until he gets his belly rubbed
Many dogs love to get their belly rubbed. One K9 police dog, named Jango Fett, loved belly rubs so much that he refused to go to work until his handler, Officer Ryan Costin, gave him some. Both work for the Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Office. And while Jango works hard every day, sometimes he needs a little extra motivation to get going.
Another normal day at work
It all started one morning when Officer Costin and Jango were preparing to go to work. In a video on Facebook, Jango can be seen lying on the lawn outside of the pair’s patrol car. Costin can be seen motioning for Jango to get into the back of the car. Jango just lays there as Costin tries to figure out what the problem is and how to get Jango to get in.
Costin alerted his wife, Casie, via text that he had run into a snag on his way to work and to look out the window. That was when she captured the hilarious video on her phone.
Jango just wanted a little attention
Finally, Costin figures out that all Jango wants is a belly rub. So, he has Jango roll over and rubs his belly. It doesn’t take long before Jango is happy with his belly rubbing and is ready to go.
Cassie can be heard narrating from off camera, “So, all I need to get ready for work is a belly rub. Got it, check.”
The department responds
After hearing Officer Costin’s story, the department the two works for had to post about it on their Facebook:
“A beautiful Spring day makes the best Deputies want to play hooky!! Yes, we all love working at the Sheriff’s Office, but just like our human Deputies, when spring fever hits even our awesome K-9s just want to go to the park and lie in the cool grass and maybe play a little catch…. or um fetch!!”
A dedication to duty
A Belgian Malinois, Jango, and Costin have worked together since 2013. Usually, Jango is the first in the car, but for some reason, he lagged behind on that day. Maybe it was the warm weather or he simply needed a little attention. Fortunately, Costin was able to quickly figure out what Jango wanted and wasn’t too late for work.
More about Belgian Malinois
Belgian Malinois are known for their confidence and loyalty. They are also squarely built and well-muscled, making them a great fit as a police K9. Their work ethic is further bolstered by the breed’s obedience to their handlers. Also, the breed’s speed and agility make them particularly suited for work as a K9.
Something to keep in mind in the future
Luckily, Costin knows he can get Jango to comply in the future by simply giving him a belly rub. This is not that much to ask for the dedicated service that Jango gives to his department and community. For more on Jango, visit his Facebook page.
