Police officer hailed as 'superhero' after being caught playing dolls with girls in the street

Police officers are sworn to protect people and property. But there are some, like this Virginia cop, willing to go the extra mile even if it goes beyond his duties.

South Hill Police Cpl. C.B. Fleming responded to a call regarding a gas leak at an apartment complex. It was a false alarm with everyone deemed safe.

He could have just left the area, but Fleming instead got on on the ground and started playing dolls with the neighborhood children.

He colored with the boys and played dolls with the girls, making their Valentine’s Day memorable.

One of the mothers present, Iesha Roper-Boswell captured the moment on video and uploaded it on Facebook.

The post went viral, with Fleming receiving a lot of positive messages from viewers.

The officer was so humbled so he commented on the post:

“Y’all give me more credit than I deserve but I do appreciate the love. Plus who doesn’t like playing and coloring with kids?!? It’s probably my favorite thing to do. They were so kind to me and I’m so thankful they allowed me to play with them today”

“I was telling him that my daughter, my niece, and some of the other children here were afraid of cops,” Roper-Boswell told CNN affiliate WTVR. “So when he came and played with them, I captured that moment, not because I thought it would go viral, but it was amazing that my niece didn’t break out into tears.”

Officer Fleming chose to play with the children just to make sure they felt safe.

He knew that there was more to his job than just writing tickets and chasing bad guys. Fleming chose to be a positive influence, bringing light to those kids’ days.

All he did was play with them, but the children came to see Officer Fleming as their “superhero”.

Fleming has always been good with kids considering his more than 15 years on the force.

Roper-Boswell called him “awesome”, praising the cop for his amazing bond with the children. Surely other moms felt the same way for Fleming.

Officer Fleming just hopes that his actions that day, including those of his fellow police officers, will spark that much needed change in the relationship between the police and their community.

Fleming shares that they used to receive a lot of calls when he first started. He thought that if the people knew him as an anchor point, then they could come and talk since they trusted him.

He wants everyone in the community to know that he is always ready to listen and help. And that goes for the adults too.

Fleming is a welcome sight amidst all the distrust and hostility towards the police force. He is the embodiment of what cops are supposed to be. Let’s hope others follow his example.

And let’s hope communities begin to trust their local officers once again.
