Police officers show high school dancers what they’re made of in epic stage show
It’s a rare sight to get the chance to see people who can’t dance, hit the dance floor. Even better when that group is a bunch of police officers, it shows everyone that officers are just ordinary people, like you and me.
But, that was precisely the point for the Knoxville Police Department when they hit the stage for a dance-off against the Austin East Dancers.

In 2017, the idea to bring officers to the stage with the high school dance team was the idea of Malaika Guthrie, an instructor, and leader of the Austin East Dance Team.
It was a grand vision to celebrate black history month, and no one would ever forget it.

The performance starts as the strobe lights begin to flash, and the sounds of police sirens start to wale.
Over 20 officers are on the stage in frozen poses.
The intense beginning breaks and one officer starts to play the acoustic guitar. Then another officer joins him on an electric guitar for an enjoyable intro.
Then the officer grabs the microphone and tells the audience to sing along to the song.
Everyone can sing along because the song is “My Girl” by The Temptations.
The crowd joins in and sings along to the song. The female officers continue to strike power poses and look very unimpressed.
The duo finishes up their song, and then it’s the ladies’ turn to put on a show.
They make their way to the front of the stage and perform to Beyonce’s song “Run the World (Girls).” They have a whole routine of sweet dance moves, and the crowd loves every bit of it.
After the ladies get the chance to show off, it’s back to the guys. A few of the male officers push to the front of the stage, and the ladies fall to the back. The men looking tough with their arms crossed- the song “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” by Tom Jones turns up.
Each of the officers gets to showcase by putting on an individual dance move.
Then the music gets more dancy, and the fun picks up.
Two more officers show off a short routine, and then it’s time for the high school dance team to join in.
This is the fun part because Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch shows off his dance moves with the dance team in a coordinated routine.
“We’ve gotten to know the young people in the dance troupe, and they can be our ambassadors to express that we are just regular folks,” Rausch said.
It’s very refreshing to see these officers and the dancers give it 100 percent and leave all their inhibitions behind.
After the routine with the police chief, the whole crew of officers and dancers come together for a couple of minutes of dancing.
It looks like a big dance party and everyone is having fun.
Then, in classic dance fashion, a good old dance-off.
Two opposing lines are formed, and one officer versus one dancer would meet in the middle and battle it out.
It’s pretty funny to watch the individual officers dance, cause it’s clear that they aren’t outstanding dancers.
I assume they are much better at their jobs but, it’s so much fun to see them bring the positivity to the stage.
