Pregnant mama shows off belly dancing skills just one day before giving birth
Belly dancing is a collective of ancient dance forms gathered together over thousands of years. It has fascinated and enthralled both those performing the dance and those who watch it across many cultures in countless countries. Normally, when we see someone shimmying and shaking through the dance, they are slim, trim, and most definitely not pregnant.
One master of belly dancing decided to change that in a very big way when she took to the stage to pop and roll her big pregnant belly just a day before giving birth.
Romy Mimus is a multi-award-winning belly dancing artist who has been teaching others the ancient art of body movement since 2006.
No stranger to dance instruction, Romy’s own mother, Enussah, opened the largest school in Germany to teach Oriental Dance, which encompasses belly dancing. It was 18-years-ago now that Romy fell in love with the art of Raqs Sharqi. This is the Egyptian-Arabic name for both “oriental dance” and “belly dancing” and refers specifically to the Egyptian classical form of belly dance.
Practicing under world-famous dancers accomplished in many styles, including her mom who was also famous for her belly dancing, Romy had the world of Raqs Sharqi education at her fingertips. The talented woman that she is, she took advantage of the opportunity and went on to become an official Master Instructor in Oriental Dance.
Then, 2 years ago Romy showed the world just how beautiful pregnant belly dancing can be.
Beneath a video she uploaded of herself belly dancing at 8-months-pregnant, Romy shared why she supports women who want to perform the dance while pregnant.
“Being pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t workout. But of course you have to be gentle and listen to your body. Movement keeps you fit and healthy during pregnancy. I personally always feel best while dancing, especially now with my little one :-) It’s also totally safe for her! Happy and healthy Pregnancy everybody!” Romy’s YouTube caption to the video read.
At 9-months pregnant and literally the day before she gave birth, Romy proved to the world how safe, beneficial, and even effective pregnant belly dancing can be.
Dressed in a more or less traditional belly dance outfit, also known as a bedlah, Romy enters the stage with gorgeous teal-blue hip-candy and an ornate top to match. At first, she lifts the fabric of her skirt as she swirls and twirls while gyrating her hips.
With her pregnant, swollen belly exposed, it only adds more beautiful curvature to the dance. Though many women complain about not being able to bend over in their third trimester, Romy makes it look as easy as breathing.
As the song speeds up, the beautiful dancer drops her skirt back to her sides and starts really popping and shaking her way through the song.
Romy’s long, flowing curly locks whisp all around her as she twists and sways her body to the upbeat music. Though her movements are slightly limited by her pregnant belly, there’s no question as to why she’s considered a master. In fact, she’s so adept at her talent that she even took first place in Belly Dancer of the World (Raq Sharqi) in 2013.
Romy mesmerizes as she wiggles her body passionately to the music. There are no signs at all that this is anything but pure fun and bliss for her as a dancer.
