Pregnant Pittie too scared to look foster mom in the eyes holds her puppies in

Being an expecting mom is pretty darn hard. It’s even harder if you’re badly in need of therapy.

Valentine the Pitbull was broken and depressed, and she was expecting puppies.

Besides the load she was carrying in her womb already, she also had one hell of another load on her shoulders.

When she came to the care of Brie Willis, she could barely raise her head to make eye contact.

There aren’t too many details about Valentine. Whatever her past life was like, it was anything but pleasant. I dread to imagine how she was treated before she came to Brie Willis.

Brie began working hard to put Valentine on the road to healing.

She’d speak gently to her and hand her treats. Anything to get the Pitbull to trust again.

Improvement was slow, but it was there.

Little by little, Valentine would be a little more responsive to Brie. After that slow progress, the Pittie started trusting again.

When Valentine was nearly back to her old self, Brie took her outside.

It might have been ages since she last played outside, and the traumatized Pitbull enjoyed every second of it.

She needed as much of that happy confidence as possible. She was expecting puppies, after all.

Hiding and refusal to interact are just a few signs of anxiety in a traumatized animal.

The problem is animals can’t talk, so it’s pretty hard to figure out what their past experiences were like.

Often, we’re just left guessing.

Now that this Pitty is on the road back to her old self, she was slowly becoming ready for motherhood.

Valentine, named after Valentine’s day when Brie got her, was totally different from the reclusive, silent dog of a few weeks ago.

When the day came, Valentine gave birth to a litter of 6 adorable puppies.

She was bright and energetic now, and so were the puppies.

It seems like that joy and confidence came back just in the nick of time.

Valentine’s puppies are a lucky bunch. They almost wouldn’t have made it, had their mom not gone through that little bit of rehab.

Now, they can enter the world with the same joy and energy that their mom worked so hard to find again.

They stayed with Brie and Valentine until they were 8 weeks old. Then it came time to think of their forever homes.

As much as Brie wanted to keep them, she couldn’t look after another 6 Pitbulls.

Besides, I’m sure Valentine would want the best lives for them, even if it meant saying goodbye.

As for Valentine herself, Brie was initially just a foster guardian to her.

Though after watching her all those weeks, Brie couldn’t help but fall for the precious Pitty.

She made the official move to adopt Valentine, something both of them really wanted, I’m sure.
