President of Ireland’s dog adorably crashes press conference because he needs his belly rubbed
Irish President Michael D. Higgins loves Bernese Mountain dogs – he loves them so much, in fact, that he has two of them named Sioda and Br贸d. The two are often seen in his company, whether he is relaxing or participating in official government activities. This has endeared him to the public, especially in his native Ireland. However, one dog cameo, in particular, was recently captured and shared online where it quickly went viral.
The Bernese Mountain dog interrupts an official event
President Higgins was participating in an official International Women鈥檚 Day event when Br贸d decided to make an appearance. As President Higgins sits talking with his wife, Sabina Coyne, Br贸d enters the room in search of his owner. Walking up to President Higgins, Br贸d lays down and flips on his back wanting some belly rubs.
All he wanted was some belly rubs
Of course, the Irish President gives them to him, but this isn鈥檛 the first time the pooch has interrupted official events. Both Br贸d and Sioda have been seen at various events held by the Irish President, as well as many he has attended around the world. In fact, President Higgins is seldom seen out in public without one of his faithful dogs by his side.
The whole thing was captured by Iranian-Syrian journalist Razan Ibraheem, who posted the video of the adorable interaction on her Twitter page. The post ended up going viral, getting over 9.9 million views.

As the ninth president of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins has also served as the Minister for Arts, Culture, and the Gaeltacht for the country, as well as a variety of other political positions within the Irish government. During his run for his second term as the Irish President, he got a record 822,566 first preference votes.
In addition to his career as a politician and his obvious love of dogs, Higgins is a broadcaster and a poet, with several of his poems published in various books and periodicals.

It is easy to see why Higgins loves Bernese Mountain dogs so much. The dog breed is known for its sweet and affectionate nature. They are also calm and seem to take life with ease, though they do love to romp and play with their owners when the situation warrants it.
A large breed of dog, the Bernese Mountain dog stands a little over 27-inches at the shoulder. They also have distinct markings and fur coloration which set them apart from other dog breeds. Bernese Mountain dogs get along with most people, though they often become attached to one individual in particular.

The next time you see President Higgins of Ireland, look for his two companion dogs Sioda and Br贸d! Chances are, they will be somewhere close by, and, if you are lucky, they might even make an appearance for some belly rubs!
