Young girl attempts a makeup tutorial video and the results are comedy gold

When 8-year-old Preslie decided to hijack her mom’s phone in order to make her own version of one of the countless makeup tutorials she’s no-doubt seen on YouTube, her first try ended up going viral. But not for the reason she might have hoped.

Across Facebook alone – between her mother’s original post and the re-post on Love What Matters – Preslie’s attempt has been viewed nearly one million times since 2017.

It’s clear that Preslie is at least a pro viewer of makeup tutorials – you can hear it in the language she uses and the way she shows off each product just like the major influencers.

Sadly, all that viewing experience hasn’t translated into makeup applications skills for the California elementary schooler just yet. But it’s ok, she’s got plenty of time.

Her mom found the video hysterical and sent it to Love What Matters with the caption:

“Just going through my camera roll and I find all of Preslie’s pretend makeup tutorials she likes to do! This one made me laugh so hard! Let’s call this one, ‘Makeup Tutorial Gone WAY WRONG!!’”

Preslie’s video seems to begin partway through her makeover efforts, since her first words are “So, now I’m just going to go on with my foundation color…”

Unfortunately, she does not appear to be holding up foundation for this step.

Then, she suggests it might be blush (which is also not the case) and grabs quite a large makeup brush to begin the application under her cheekbones.

Since it’s either a contouring or eyeshadow palette, things get a little dark in all the wrong places.

Preslie seems confused, but in typical 8-year-old fashion, her answer seems to be adding more instead of backing off.

In fact, she knows things are going poorly and yet adds some to her chin and then doubles down on the other cheek!

If her goal was to create a 5 o’clock shadow, she’s doing great!

Seeming not to believe what she sees in the mirror, she tests the color on her arm – and, yep, it’s dark brown!

“I’m not even joking you right now. Oh no,” she exclaims, utterly defeated as she does a literal *headdesk* in front of the camera.

But she manages to pick herself back up in an attempt to rectify the situation. After all, part of these makeup tutorials are about helping people fix their mistakes!

Now she’s squeezing something out of a tube off-camera, and while we were hoping it was some makeup remover, it’s not.

Preslie is going to solve her problem not by washing off the powder, but by attempting to cover it up with a cream foundation – and plenty of it!

We just hope mom set aside this stuff for her daughter and she’s not breaking into the everyday stash.

It looks like Preslie gives up there – or at least that’s where her mom chose to cut off the video when she edited it.

Our last view of Preslie is her sponging an epic amount of foundation over the dark powder. And she seems to think it’s working ok.

While we really would have liked to see what came next, that’s the end of Preslie’s makeup tutorial.

And, let’s face it, we learned a lot (about what not to do).
