Principal calls cop into his office and tells him a “disturbing” video has surfaced
Police officers across the country help protect schools in the U.S. every day. Known collectively as security officers and school resource officers, these men and women help protect students and the faculty from harm. This is especially important with the rise in the number of school violence, including school shootings.
One police officer, in particular, is making a name for himself at Heritage High School in Brentwood, California, where he works.
Officer Mitch Brouillette
Police Officer Mitch Brouillette is one of these officers. Called Officer Mitch by the students, he has shown himself, like many school resource officers, as someone the kids can rely on and look up to. He has become somewhat of a father figure of some who attend the high school.
Always there for them
Big in stature, Officer Mitch tends to intimidate people at first, but once they get to know him, his charm comes through and shows why he is loved by so many. The students and others around him realize that he truly cares for everybody at the school and those he interacts with in the community.
After he first became a police officer, Officer Mitch promised himself two things: One, he never wanted to be a jerk, and two, he never wanted to get fat. Fortunately, he has kept both of his promises to himself, the former by keeping to a simple philosophy:
“There’s always a good side to somebody.”
Called into the office
The students and faculty at the school decided to honor the police officer, but they wanted to surprise him. He was called into the office to view a video involving one of the students, named Sienna. As Officer Mitch walked to the office with the principle, he was informed that the video was disturbing.
Let a celebration of service commence
Prepared for the worst, Officer Mitch watched the video, but instead of something bad, the video consisted of students thanking him for all he had done for them. In a video shot of the event, you can see the emotion taking a hold of Officer Mitch.
He quickly put on a pair of dark sunglasses, so we’ll never know how much.
Thank-yous all around
After watching the video, Officer Mitch was led outside where hundreds of students waited for him. The students cheered and showed their appreciation for their favorite police offer, making sure to thank him for being there for them. They even gave him a white coat and a big yellow boa to wear as a part of the celebration.
You can watch the celebration of all that Officer Mitch does for the students and faculty at Heritage High School in the video below.
