Principal surprises by joining STEP team on the court – and the crowd begins to roar
Many schools across the U.S. use Spirit Week as a way to drive up school spirit, usually culminating in a sporting event and dance at the end of the week. During Spirit Week at many schools, students participate in a variety of activities, including dressing up and attending a pep rally, leading into the Friday of the big game.
So, when Lake Mary High School in Seminole County, Florida hosted its Spirit Week, they capped it off with a special appearance by the school principal, Dr. Reynolds, during the pep rally, which had the whole student body cheering.
The highlight of Spirit Week
A normal part of any pep rally at the school was a performance by the Unity Revolution STEP team, the school’s dance team. Reynolds had actually graduated from the high school and had served as a coach for the STEP team in years past.
A history at the school
A second-generation principal at the school, her father was the school’s first principal, Reynolds approached the current STEP teams’ coach, Kelly Lupis, with the idea of performing along with the team during the pep rally capping off Spirit Week.
A big part of the performance
Lupis readily agreed and soon was set to practice with the STEP team for her part in its routine. Arriving for practice. Reynolds soon discovered that she would play an integral part of the routine and would be performing front and center during the pep rally.
“I wasn’t thinking they’d have me doing half the darn routine,” she shared with ABC News.
Exciting the crowd at the pep rally
At the pep rally, the STEP team performed their routine, driving the excitement of the crowd. But soon, they turned up the noise level somewhat as Reynolds joined them on the floor. Soon, the crowd got much louder as the team, along with Reynolds, began to dance.
As Reynolds performed on the floor alongside the rest of the STEP team, the crowd in the gym was ecstatic, erupting in screams and applause for their favorite principal, especially as Reynolds began to stomp and dance along with the rest of the team. The excitement was palpable.
A very successful Spirit Week
Posted on YouTube, the video of the routine has gotten over 4 million views, showing that everyone wanted to see Reynolds and the rest of the team’s amazing performance. Best of all, the school’s team won the game that night. Some of their success was probably due to the excitement created by Reynolds and the others at the pep rally.
