Cunning pug lures sister into his crate so he can lock her up inside it

Dogs are pretty smart, especially an adorable, little pug named Terrell Puggs. Also known as Sizzle, Terrell Puggs also has a sister named Elphie, with who he also has a little bit of sibling rivalry going. Adopted from Delaware Valley Pug Rescue, Sizzle had an immediate bond with his sister.

Ever since Sizzle was brought to live with Elphie and her owner, Andrew Nechetsky, his sister has gone to great lengths to spend extra time with him.

“I leave for work before my wife does, and she would always put him in the crate as he was a puppy,” Nechetsky told The Dodo. “We would put a gate in between the kitchen and the hallway so Elphie wouldn’t bother him while we were gone.”

A head-scratching situation

Once he would get home, Nechetsky would find Sizzle outside of his crate. Initially blaming his wife, thinking she was forgetting to lock the cage, Nechetsky soon found out that Elphie was actually letting him out.

She had learned how to get over the gate and was letting Sizzle out of his crate.

Figuring it was pointless to keep locking Sizzle in his crate only for his sister to let him out, the couple stopped doing so. In the coming weeks, the couple encountered another mystery.

They would arrive home to find Elphie locked inside of her brother’s crate.

The problem was, the crate couldn’t be locked from the inside.

“I started coming home from work and I’d open the front door and hear her crying. I walk into the kitchen and see her locked in the crate,” Nechetsky said. “I honestly couldn’t for the life of me figure out how she got in there.”

Not finding anything on his home security camera, Nechetsky decided to follow Sizzle on a hunch one day as he walked through the kitchen.

“I see him open the crate, then he walks away and grabs a little pig toy and he puts it in the crate,” Nechetsky said. “He walked away and waited, she went looking for her pig, saw it in the crate, walked in, and sat next to it. Then he closed the door and used his mouth to latch it shut. It blew my freakin’ mind.”

Even after Nechetsky let Elphie out, Sizzle would just lock her in again a few hours later. That was when the couple decided to get rid of the crate altogether. Nechetsky doesn’t think Sizzle has any ill will towards his sister, though.

“I think he did it as a game,” Nechetsky said. “He loves to play with her — they get along great.”

Since getting rid of the crate, Sizzle has stopped trying to play tricks on Elphie.

“Every day I come home now they’re cuddling on the couch,” Nechetsky said. “These pups are the best, even when they’re bad.”
