Stories of second chances never get old, and here’s another one to add to the list. It’s another story of a rescued dog, one that was really rescued at just the right time.

She was abandoned in a Taiwan ditch.

She was left for dead until she was found by Animal Shelter.

The dog laid in that gutter for God knows how long. It was clear that the time and location took their toll on her. Her fur was all messy, she looked hopeless and scared.

She wasn’t moving.

She was wearing a diaper, but that was far from the most important detail about her.

Broken in more ways than one

What stood out was that both her legs were broken and infected.

Seems likely that this was the doing of a very cruel pet owner. Both her legs had been reduced to skin and bone, and there was dirt and traces of infection all over.

A heart-shattering sight

The mere sight of her could shatter your heart into a million pieces. I know mine did.

Animal Shelter probably felt exactly that. Though their job is to make something out of that sympathy and heartbreak, and that’s what they were going to do.

The infection was nasty and wasn’t the only thing the dog was suffering from. They discarded the diaper and took her to an animal hospital.

Naming her Cookie, they gave her immediate medical attention at the animal hospital.

She was given surgery to stop the infections and let her legs heal. The nature in which she was found leaves a lot of questions.

If her broken legs were the result of physical abuse, then that’d be a direct violation of Taiwan’s animal protection laws.

Of course, given the state of her hind legs when they found her, having her gain the function of all fours was out of the question.

Her back legs will never function.

But the important part is that she was alive.

Cookie got a second chance at life.

She suffered a lot for it, but she got it. With the help of a harness from an Animal Shelter member, she could walk with her front legs while her rear was held off the ground.

She made it despite all the odds, and she was still a sweet and loving dog through it all.

Sweet and loving dogs deserve homes that’ll return the favor, and Cookie was to be given one.

As cute as she was to the workers at Animal Shelter, Cookie needed a proper home.

A forever home

The great news was that it didn’t take long for that to happen.

A family called Animal Shelter and said they’d love to adopt Cookie. They heard of her survival story, and how she was just as sweet as her namesake.

She proved them right.

Soon after, Cookie was introduced into that loving new home. There, she got to live the life she deserved.

She could hear the voices of a family that loved and appreciated her. Cookie had her own bed, stuffed animal, and a roof over her head.

Cookie’s story shows that sometimes, not giving up on someone can make all the difference.
