Back in 2014, a 9-year-old schnauzer named Casey became a viral Internet sensation after her dramatic reaction to her returning friend.

Rebecca Svetina had moved away from her family home in Murrysville, Pennsylvania 2 years earlier. And let’s just say Casey’s reaction put her parents’ to shame. It looks like someone missed her so much they couldn’t even stand it.

“We got her whenever I was still living at home, so she remembers me from when she was a puppy,” Rebecca Svetina told AOL.com.

Svetina and her husband had moved to Slovenia and this trip back brought them a warm – and loud – greeting!

When Casey saw her old bestie she went berserk, barking with joy. She could hardly contain herself, making lots of noise, and covering Rebecca in kisses.

“She doesn’t bark, she squeaks just like a continuous squeak,” Rebecca’s husband, Miha Svetina, told local ABC affiliate WTAE.

Rebecca said that while people commented on the dog’s vocalizations, Casey’s are pretty common for a schnauzer and anyone who knows the breed will know that’s just what they sound like sometimes when they’re happy.

But that squeaking came to a sudden stop when it was just too much excitement for one little schnauzer to handle.

Casey wobbled a little, then the overcome dog just passed right out!

Her family couldn’t believe it but later assured everyone that there’s nothing wrong with the dog and that she’s ok. They even took her to the vet the next morning just to be sure since that had never happened before.

“We never expected her to pass out, but luckily she’s fine,” said Rebecca Svetina.

At first, her husband was worried:

“I think our hearts stopped a little bit as well until she came back and started running around, and we knew everything would be OK,” Miha Svetina said.

Of course, the whole thing was caught on video, which quickly went viral. In fact, it had been viewed over 18 MILLION times in just a week after it was posted! (It’s now at over 53 million!)

“It’s so genuine. It’s so cute. There are so many things going on in the world. People are actually excited when they see something so nice and dogs are just awesome,” Miha Svetina told WTAE.

The Svetinas had returned to Murrysville in order to celebrate their wedding with a reception in Rebecca’s hometown. But instead of being able to engage in some pre-party planning, they were fielding calls from the press about Casey!

“The next day, we woke up to a crazy day. The views went sky high,” Miha Svetina said.

“We were trying to plan this wedding reception and we didn’t know what to do when all of these views came in from YouTube,” Rebecca Svetina said.

When she uploaded the video she acknowledged that a two-year separation “in fairness is 14 years in dog years,” according to the caption on the clip.

While Casey was already 9 years old in the 2014 video, she passed away just four months ago, in late March 2020.

Rebecca updated fans of the viral video with a sweet and poetic tribute to her beloved friend:

“On Wednesday, March 25th we said goodbye to Casey
In the midst of a pandemic, earthquakes, amongst slings and arrows – a furry 4-legged friend you may know says farewell adding to our sorrows.
Casey, a legend, was a YouTube viral video star. Her squeals of overwhelming joy spread smiles near and far.
Ignorant to her stardom, she lived a beautiful suburban life – with a big backyard and plenty of squirrels and wildlife.

Though she never visited me a across the sea, she was well-traveled from Ohio to DC.
In college she was a fan at my soccer games, but Skyping with your dog isn’t quite the same.
If only I could reach through the computer screen, and give her one last snuggle for bday 15.
A lucky gal born on St. Patty’s Day, and passed on Slovenian Mother’s Day.
I knew this day would come, but I didn’t know it’d be so hard – a memory on YouTube and a grave in the backyard.
She kept my parents company for a decade and a half – a part of family forever weddings, holidays, tears and laughs.
Paw prints in our hearts, always by our side, fiercely loyal through thick and thin, a chapter in our life.”
