Man rushes to save two puppies abandoned in sealed fish tanks
Hearing stories of animal abuse isn’t easy. It makes you wonder how some humans are capable of abandoning pets and physically hurting them.
A Mississippi man witnessed a case of animal abuse while walking near his home.
Matt Williamson was out that day. He was searching for his dog in the woods near his property.
Instead of his pet, he saw something else.
He saw two abandoned puppies and their condition was shocking. They were placed inside an aquarium with its lid cemented shut.
In an interview with WAPT-TV, he shared:
“As I got closer, I saw these eyes peering out at me and they looked like they needed help. That’s when I called authorities.”
Seeing the dog, he knew he had to help them.
Matt called the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department. They helped him in removing the puppies from the aquarium and took them to the Mississippi Animal Rescue League.
At the shelter, the puppies remained scared and anxious.
They weren’t used to human handling. Their behavior made vets think that they were born in the wooded area.
Debre Boswell, MARL director, shared in the same interview:
“We think they are a little feral (and) not used to human handling. They were running a fever, about 103, or so. Our standard procedure is to put them in a quiet place, number one, because of their temperature, and number two, their stress level.”
The two dogs huddled together.
They were super scared being around humans that they felt the need to protect each other. One of them had his paw around the other, a clear sign of being frightened.
People who’ve seen the news expressed different reactions.
One Twitter user commented:
“Why in the hell do people do these things !!!! Thank God I don’t wouldn’t want to be like them !!!”
Another one said:
“Why not just give them away? Someone would love to have them!! OMG, what are people thinking!!?”
There was also this person who expressed frustration about what happened. She commented:
“why can’t the law do the same to them. They will rot in Hell”
Despite the puppies’ scary experience, their future looks bright.
Since they were taken to the rescue shelter, their conditions have improved a lot. They became healthier and more outgoing. They weren’t afraid of humans anymore.
They found a forever home.
And that wasn’t the only good news for the puppies. They actually got adopted together which means that they’ll have each other for years to come.
They have become reliant on each other that taking them apart won’t be good for them. It’s a good thing that the shelter’s effort to find a family who’ll take them together ended up with positive news.
They became beach dogs!
The family who took them in takes them on lots of adventures. They named them Jackson and Roxie and they’re now living happy and healthy lives.
