Owner compliments his 'very handsome' dog and puppy's reaction is the cutest
People have different reactions when they receive compliments. Some people accept them right away while others feel embarrassed and uncomfortable. There are people who even consider compliments as lies.
Apparently, humans aren’t the only who react to compliments that way. It’s also the same thing with dogs.
A French Bulldog puppy got a new red bandanna.
Sean Sarantos bought the bandana from a local shop thinking it’ll look great on his pooch- and it did!
However, the little dog hasn’t figured out how to graciously accept a compliment yet.
At first, Sean asked the dog “Hey, how do you like your bandanna?” The puppy didn’t quite get it the first time because he was busy licking his human’s face.
Then, he asked again, “Do you like it?”
This time, the puppy felt a bit confused. He’s not sure what his human was up to so he let out a little bark.
Sean continued to tell the pooch how nice his bandanna looked. However, the more he complimented the dog, the more defensive he got.
When Sean went on to comment how handsome the little dog was, he tried to hide behind him.
He suddenly felt shy about his bandanna. Then, as if he’s had enough of his human complimenting him, the dog threw both of his paws up in the air.
The precious moment was caught on video and more than 2 million people have watched it.
Almost everyone adored the puppy’s attitude.
One of the viewers said:
“That’s a cute puppy..and he was trying to look tough…that’s was so adorable.”
Another one managed to give his own interpretation of the puppy’s behavior. He commented:
“He’s so mannish! He’s like, “yeah fool I know I look good. I don’t need yo’ compliments!” So cute.”
A viewer also said:
“He was too cute! Too cute! And much attitude! It’s funny how the smallest things have the biggest mouths. lmao”
Dogs know when their humans are praising them.
Some Hungarian neuroscientists found out something surprising when they studied how dogs process certain aspects of human speech. In the study, 13 dogs were brought to a laboratory. They were trained to remain still while inside an fMRI scanner.
There, the dogs listened to a couple of audio recordings with several phrases we use to say to our dogs. The list included “well done” and “clever” and other neutral conjunctions that have no meanings to dogs like “as if” and “such”.
The neuroscientists found out that regardless of the tone used, words of praises elicited an activation of the left hemisphere of the dogs’ brain. There are studies that show a similar pattern of left hemispheric activation in processing human speech.
They concluded that the similarity could signify how dogs understand words and how humans process language. Of course, it’s still too early to take that conclusion too far.
The puppy is still learning.
The tiny pooch is still getting used to being a dog and living his best life with his human. He still has a long way when it comes to understanding commands and praises. Despite that, there’s nothing to worry. His human will likely shower him with lots of compliments and hopefully, lots of bandannas as well. He clearly loves his dog so much.
