There are just too many things to love and admire about dogs: their intelligence, razor-sharp instincts, loyalty, charm, silliness, way with kids… the list goes on.

When you think they’ve done every possible good thing in the book, they come back with even more to melt your heart and leave you wondering why humans can’t be more like them.

Lana is an adorable puppy who was rescued from the streets.

She found a forever home with Suelen Schaumloeffel and her fiance. From braving the cold and barely having enough to eat to living in a lovely house with food always ready, Lana found her heaven on earth.

She was healthy, safe, and loved, and the amazing part was that she knew how to pass on that love and care to others.

In the region where Lana and her family lived, the weather was becoming a bit chilly, but she didn’t have to worry about anything because her loving humans ensured she had a thick blanket to keep her warm.

However, the sweet dog must have had something else in mind.

It took a while before Suelen’s fiance figured out why Lana’s blanket was missing from the house.

He came out one morning and discovered half of the blanket in their yard and half spilling out into the street. It wasn’t just the blanket he saw, either.

He saw their precious Lana lying on half the blanket and a stray dog on the other half.

It was the most touching display of empathy he’d ever seen.

It seems Lana never forgot what her life was like before Suelen adopted her.

The dog Lana shared her blanket with would keep running away whenever Suelen tried to reach out and help it, so she was incredibly pleased that Lana found a way to make it feel welcome and cared for.

Suelen told The Dodo,

“I thought, ‘How beautiful what she did for her friend.’ My best four-legged friend reminded me of something so important: generosity!”

Suelen and her fiance may not have successfully taken the stray dog under their wing, but at least it doesn’t scamper off at the mere sight of them anymore.

Lana’s friend only runs away once humans get too close. Suelen took this as a sign that the most she could do now was care for it by leaving out food and water.

Lana’s strong sense of empathy was a great reminder to Suelen how vital compassion and generosity are. (Not that Suelan was ever lacking in both in the first place!)

Dogs are angels. In their way, they can nudge you toward stepping up more and extending kindness to those who need it most.

Thank you for setting such an excellent example for humans and dogs everywhere, Lana.

The stray dog may not feel ready to be adopted just yet, but you have found ways to make your friend feel safe and loved.

May we all be inspired by this sweet puppy’s kindness and extend empathy and compassion to those who need it.
