Kayaker rescues lost baby raccoon swimming in the middle of the ocean
One fisherman is on his usual kayak sail on the ocean when he spotted an unusual figure floating in the water.
He looked very carefully and confirmed that his eyes were not playing any tricks on him. And, true enough, when he got close to the figure on the water, he became certain that he really was looking at a stranded raccoon.
So, how did this raccoon get out there in the middle of the ocean? The fisherman from Florida was as perplexed as anybody upon seeing the tiny animal with his own eyes, swimming for dear life.
Steve is part of “Key West Kayak Fishing” and in one of his boat rides uploaded on their YouTube channel, he shared about finding the raccoon.
Seeing that the animal is in distress, Steve did not waste any time and got closer to it. In the video, the end of his kayak can be seen as he paddled swiftly in the raccoon’s direction.
The little guy looked so relieved to find him there and once he was very near, the animal quickly reached for the end of his kayak so he can safely go out of the water.
It was amazing how the raccoon got so far out into the waters.
There were sharks and other marine life in the area that could have snatched the raccoon from the wave, but the tiny furball was lucky to find Steve before any predator went across his way. Steve saw that the little guy was already exhausted and so, he ensured his safety by putting him in the tackle box and letting him stay there until he returned to dry land.
“I guess he was exhausted because within a couple of minutes, he was sound asleep and I couldn’t wake him up,” Steve shared thru the video’s description.
At some point, Steve got near an island where he meant to drop the raccoon off so he could get back to his natural habitat faster.
However, the sleepy fellow did not wake up and was too sleepy to get out of the boat and be free of the ocean once again. Because of this, Steve decided to let him stay in the tackle box longer. He also figured he could catch the “sleepyhead” some lunch while they were out in the water.
After hours of paddling across the water channel, Steve finally returns to dry land, and with him was his newfound companion. When the boat was fully docked, the animal slowly came to and went out of the tackle box.
Steve paddled by hand and did not turn the engine on so the little fellow could sleep. He brought him to Big Pine Key, which is a great place for the raccoon to live in.
Viewers online were quite amazed at the unusual encounter and commended Steve for his care and concern for the lost animal.
