Woman turns old railroad car into gorgeous off-grid home with incredible views
We can safely say that people are growing more and more creative each day regarding owning a home.
Some folks are after tiny homes while others look for houses with glass walls and open spaces integrated into the design.
There are also people who have turned school buses, boats, and old vans into their new abode.
We have seen all sorts of ideas when we talk about home transformations, but I bet you have never seen a railway carriage transform into an actual residence.
Is this even possible? Where can you even get these old carriages?
A woman from New Zealand, in the Central Otego Region, found just the right place for her to build a home.
Mandy found the old railroad cars set across the scenic countryside and thought that they would make a stunning home.
She knew that the place had so much potential so she immediately got her creative juices running and started her unique project.
As it turned out, the woman and her former husband had tons of experience with restoration, although they used to transform old boats and yachts into their original glory.
When she saw the old carriages, it sparked something in her and she knew her experience with restoring old boats would surely come in handy.
The carriages were not dry at all when she first inspected them prior to their restoration.
The walls and floors were damp and she even found dead birds inside them.
The railroad cars looked hopeless, but Mandy had high hopes for the place. She knew just what to do to bring back the place’s glory and beauty.
The place is off-the-grid and this is already a challenge especially when it comes to having enough water to use in her home.
It was all part of life outside the grid and she welcomed it. She also gathers rainwater and stores it for her use.
Electricity was also a huge challenge but she overcame it by installing solar panels.
It was a difficult and daunting task to remodel and revive the carriages and make them her home, but the woman made it possible.
She completed the project and she now lives in her beautiful scenic home far from the hustling and bustling of urban areas.
The first thing that welcomes guests in her tiny but beautiful abode is the lounge area.
It showcases a cozy atmosphere that is perfect for an afternoon drink or nap.
To the right of her lounge area is her kitchen while her bedroom sits on the left side.
She also has a dedicated space for guests to rest in. Her carriage home has no bathroom inside, but she made a separate one.
She also has a bathtub outside which she cautiously uses mainly because of the limited water supply.
Mandy even created a den where books are stored. It serves as a mini-library meant to witness relaxing moments for her and her guests.
The woman may have changed a lot of things in the carriages, but she retained some of their histories, too.
The seat numbers were left, water stains on the wood and even the old markings in them were maintained to preserve the history of the place.
The charm of her home is undeniable and she is happy with the result of her hard work.
