Rapper opens grocery store where everything is free to help feed students and families in need

A parent would do everything for their kids.

Life is tough, but you can’t let them see that you’re struggling. However, kids will eventually grow up and know how hard life can be.

This is the sad reality for most families, especially those single-handedly raising their kids.

That’s exactly why some kind-hearted people try to do their best to assist families who need it the most.

Jasmine Crowe, a social entrepreneur, together with Grammy-nominated rapper, Gunna, started a project that is continuously changing lives.

Sergio Giavanni Kitchen, more popularly known as Gunna, used to go to Ronald E. McNair Middle School in College Park, Georgia.

He had seen it all. In fact, he knows how hard life can be.

When he was just a kid, life was very challenging. That’s why he did his best to reach his dreams.

Now, it’s his way of giving back.

Together with Crowe, Gunna opened the “Gunna’s Drip Closet and Goodr Grocery Store.”

“It’s like walking into a mini Wal-Mart,” John Madden, the principal, described the store.

It does look like a mini Walmart, but the difference?

Every item inside is all for FREE.

The grocery store has cereals, milk, biscuits, chips, toiletries, meat, fruits, vegetables, everything you’ll need is there and more.

There’s also a space for original Adidas and Nike shoes, jackets, pants.

How awesome, right?

Crowe is the founder and CEO of Goodr. A company devoted to eliminating food waste and poverty had partnered with the Grammy-nominated rapper.

Gunna, who really wanted to pay it forward, happily agreed to fund the grocery store as long as he is alive.

How does it work?

First, the stocks never run out. It’s replenished weekly, and there are many choices.

The grocery store has items that kids can eat and prepare themselves, but since some of them are still young, their parents can also access the grocery store.

The student’s parents can shop inside after dropping their kids in school.

With the help of an app, the parents can reserve a spot to shop. If they don’t have that app, that’s okay too.

Their kids can go after class and pick up the grocery for their parents.

Each student has their own reusable bag to put all their groceries in. It lessens the waste and keeps the privacy of the shoppers.

“I know we’ve received tons of messages from parents that are just saying, ‘You know what? You don’t know how much you just saved my life,’ because now these kids can literally say, ‘Mom, I’ll bring dinner home.’ … [With so many parents earning minimum wage] sometimes they’re working two and three jobs and there are little kids at the house,” Crowe said to NPR. “So it is really good to be able to have that there.”

With a bag of groceries and clothes, a huge weight would be lifted off some families.

For these grateful people, they can’t begin to describe how this project has helped them.

If you have been trying to make ends meet, and you’re trying to be tough for your kids, and then you get these gifts, can you imagine the joy it would bring?

No more kids going to school hungry.
