From the curb, the home looks maybe a little small. But when you go inside, it’s a different story.

Seattle’s housing market has been cutthroat for many years. But one home, in particular, struggled to sell.

From the curbside, it looked like a pretty typical Spanish Colonial Revival style home. It had one above the ground floor but it seemed pretty long. So why wasn’t it selling?

Well, the house is 56 feet long. But the width of the north end of the home is 16 feet.

The south end of the home, however, is a tiny four-and-a-half feet wide. That means that the rooms are all along one thin strip, which slowly gets more compact as you walk through the home.

“It’s like a little wedge of cheese.” – Kathy Rathvon, Real Estate Agent.

Of course, these dimensions are out of the ordinary for a building in any part of the world. America is the land of huge houses. Yet it’s understandable that homes closer to cities would be smaller. But this ‘cheese wedge,” home is something else.

Inside, there’s a pretty typically sized bedroom on the north end of the home.

Next to this is a fair-sized bathroom, which fits a full bath.

Next to this is a cramped living room.

Then there’s a narrow kitchen/eating area.

And while it may be super narrow, the kitchen does have plenty of counter space. In fact, it has more cabinets than you would find in many condos.

But underneath this, there’s a basement level.

Underneath the kitchen is a tiny bedroom.

Then there’s another cramped living room.

But underneath the top floor bedroom is another normal-sized bedroom. So technically it’s a three-bed near a city center.

Also, a flight of stairs leads down to the lower level from the outside. This means that the home could easily be divided into two separate apartments.

Outside of the backdoor is a small yard.

So how did this home come to be? There are two different rumors. Both of the rumors revolve around the fact that the property is known as “The Spite House.”

One rumor states that it supposedly came about after a husband and wife got divorced. They had both been living in a large house on the lot of land. In the divorce, the husband kept the normal-sized home. The wife got given a small sliver of land. So she built the tiny home on top of it to spite her ex-husband.

The other rumor states that it came about when the owner of the home bordering the land wanted to expand his yard.

He offered the landowner a ridiculously low rate to buy the land. The other owner was so annoyed at the low offer that they built The Spite Home on the land to forever blight the offerer’s yard.

A video of this crazy tiny home then appeared on YouTube. It soon went viral.

To date, it has gained over 5.7 million views. It also has more than 19,000 likes and 500 comments. People have been saying things like this:
