Callous neighbor installs strobe lights where epileptic kids have to take the bus
Not all stories are feel-good stories – and some are downright infuriating to read.
But we can’t pretend everything in the world is sunshine and rainbows, can we?
Reddit, of all places, is a pretty good place to look for some truly gripping personal stories. Everything from crazy exes, inconsiderate bosses, and loony roommates.
Places like r/relationshipadvice, r/amItheasshole and r/legaladvice are goldmines for anyone wanting to binge real stories about some really horrible people.
This story is no different. In fact, it’s downright appalling.
User AwareTable, the OP of this post, sought help over at r/legaladvice when he had to deal with a particularly scummy neighbor.
OP is a parent of 3 kids, and all of them have epilepsy.
It’s not an easy condition to live with, especially when episodes can be triggered rather easily – as is the case with OP’s kids.
“I have 3, young, elementary aged children that all have a very serious case of epilepsy: it does not take much to cause an episode.”
Coincidentally, OP’s neighbor’s 2 children also live with epilepsy.
All 5 children, OP’s and the neighbor’s, are epileptic and of elementary school age.
I can already imagine what sorts of precautions and accommodations they need constantly.
When the school bus comes around each morning, all 5 of them group together and catch the bus.
That’s when the scummy neighbor comes into play.
We’ve all had our experiences with scummy, rude, inconsiderate neighbors. Blasting music, parking where they’re not supposed to, having confrontations with you, etc.
But it takes a special kind of insensitivity to pick on someone with a disability.
But guess what this neighbor did.
“The family who used to own the house at the street recently moved out, and there is a new owner who has been an absolute hell to everyone. From the second day on, he has harassed our kids telling them to get off his property, even though they were technically on a public road.”
I mean, sure. It’s the typical “Get off my property” kind of neighbor. That’s bad, but it gets a lot worse. See, this neighbor hates children to the point of pettiness. They really took it too far later on, and what he did is going to make your blood boil just reading it.
“Through the grapevine he somehow learned that a majority of the kids were epileptic, and has installed strobe lights in his front lawn. These are VERY powerful, VERY fast lights that you can not avoid walking by.”
Yes. He installed strobe lights on his front lawn.
Even worse, the police allegedly aren’t bothered enough to do anything about it.
OP reached out to the kids’ school as well, but that didn’t change much. This despicable excuse for a neighbor even referred to the strobe lights as “Brat repellant”, which speaks volumes about his attitude towards disabled kids.
At the very least, he got some very insightful and helpful responses to his post.
One commenter suggested suing the neighbor for intentionally trying to harm the people with a disability, and the other comments made similar suggestions.
I hope he takes their suggestions, and that neighbor gets a wake-up call for their despicable behavior. More importantly, I hope the children don’t suffer an episode due to his callous actions.
