Soon, they had so little money that they couldn’t even afford their $100 per month car payments.

Eventually, the bank decided to take the car. Jim Ford, the repo man, arrived at Stan and Pat’s home.

Jim had seen many things in his line of work. But something about Stan and Pat broke his heart.

He felt terrible about depriving this old couple of their modest car. But it was his job, and he decided to carry on with it.

But then the couple offered him a coffee, and they got talking.

Jim was amazed at how friendly they were to someone who was repossessing their only vehicle. Then Jim learned about Pat’s service and his health condition.

With a heavy heart, Jim took the car away. But he couldn’t stop feeling a sense of guilt.

He kept on telling himself that he was just doing a job, that if he hadn’t repossessed the car, then someone else would have.

“They were like America’s grandparents. I saw my grandparents in them. I made it a block before I pulled over, called the bank and I asked them if I could pay off the past due amount.” – Jim Ford.

A couple of days later, Jim pulled in to Pat and Stan’s driveway with the car.

At first, the couple was confused. But when Jim explained that he was returning the car, they were overwhelmed with gratitude.

But then it got even better. Jim explained how he had had the car detailed, changed the oil and bought them a frozen turkey as icing on the cake.

Jim then explained how he had started a Gofundme for the couple.

People online had covered all of the couple’s payments. From this moment onward, the couple owned the car outright.

Lastly, Jim handed the couple over an envelope filled with cash.

He explained how people online had been so touched by Pat and Stan’s story that they had donated much more money than was needed to pay off the car. In all, there was $17,000 of leftover cash for them.

Pat and Stan are incredibly grateful to Jim Ford.

All that he was required to do was take the car and drop it off at the impound lot. But he realized that the couple, who had struggled so much, needed his assistance. Thanks to him and the people online, Pat and Stan are now able to live comfortably.
