One of the best parts of giving presents to your loved ones is when you see their surprised and happy reaction.

When you have kids or pets, it’s just normal for us to want to give them surprises now and then. That is precisely what Melinda Hollyfield had in mind – to give her cat the best surprise ever, and she was not disappointed with her cat’s reaction.

When Melinda Hollyfield decided to visit Puurrrfect Paws Rescue in Tennessee, she didn’t expect to find the perfect cat for her that quickly.

There, in a very messy cage, was a beautiful cat that caught her attention.

“His cage was a disaster, food everywhere because he had been attempting to play with his mouse toy in the cage,” Hollyfield told in her interview with The Dodo.

Without hesitation, Melinda filled up the adoption form and took the cat home. She named the cat Doc.

Doc has been with Melinda and her family for more than six months now, and he is still as playful as the day she met him.

He’s still the same cat who’s obsessed with his toy mouse!

“He plays with his mouse toys daily,” Melinda said. “We’ve gone through a selection of toys, but the inexpensive furry mouse toys are always his favorite.”

Doc loves to play with his beloved mouse toys all the time. With his size and playfulness, the small mouse toys would only last for a few days before they get destroyed.

Melinda has gotten used to seeing destroyed mouse toys all around the house, which she then throws away in the trash. However, just recently, Melinda noticed that her cat has been trying to retrieve the toys from the trash bin.

It seems that Doc refuses to let go of his mouse toys.

“I still keep finding destroyed ones in places,” Melinda shared. “I feel like he hides them from me because he knows I’ll throw them away.”

What would a loving fur mom do at this point?

She could not keep on hunting for destroyed mouse toys around the house, and it’s also very tiring to keep telling Doc to stop getting them from the trash!

She had a brilliant idea and a sweet one too.

After realizing how much Doc loves his mouse toys, she decided to order a box of 60 new and colorful batch of mouse toys. When the parcel arrived, she was so excited to see how her cat would react to this sweet surprise.

She put the toys in a bowl, and then she called her cat, Doc, to come. She then started recording the sweet moment of dumping all 60 colorful mouse toys to Doc, and his reaction was priceless!

“He was so overwhelmed,” Melinda happily shared. “He had no idea what was happening. He kept looking at one and then another and once they all dropped out, he went wild. I think he sat there and stared at them in disbelief for a minute or so.”

Doc was so happy and excited upon seeing the 60 new mouse toys! He didn’t even know how to start playing with all of them!

She said that hopefully, with all the new mouse toys Doc has now, that he’d eventually forget the ones in the trash.

She also added that she took most of the mouse toys and stored them away, and she plans on using them as replacements for the ones Doc will eventually destroy.
