Rescue cats take over the Georgia aquarium during lockdown
There’s nothing cuter than a curious cat! The way their eyes light up every time you pull out their favorite feather toy is so precious.
And they can be entertained by following fish around in their tanks for hours… just make sure you keep the lid on!
So these little fur balls went to kitten heaven when they were invited to roam around their local aquarium.
Since all the facilities are closed down due to the lockdown, the owners thought, ‘why not?’
The Georgia aquarium teamed up with the Atlanta Humane Society to give the rescue animals a fun and educational experience.
And of course, it was some pretty good publicity for the two businesses as well.
Aquariums all over the world are struggling since having to close their doors to public guests during the lockdown. The maintenance on those facilities is expensive to say the least, and can’t be put on hold just because they aren’t accepting paying visitors.
âAfter careful consideration, we have made the decision to close Georgia Aquarium to public guests,â reads the pop-up banner on their website since March 13 this year.
Though it seems âpublic guestsâ only applies to humans.
These lucky little rescue animals are an exception, and got to go on a little private field trip to see all the colorful sea creatures!
The Atlanta Humane Society brought all their furry friends to the vacant aquarium so the little darlings could spend the day exploring below the giant tanks of fish.
First they took the puppies, and on a separate trip brought these adorable cats. They look like they’re in kitten heaven!
The humane society shared the experience on their Instagram page.
âThey couldnât get enough of the beautiful Tropical Diver exhibit, and loooooved the jellies!â they wrote in their post.
Aren’t the jellyfish the best part of any aquarium trip, though?
It was also a great opportunity to give their followers some tips on how to care for their pets during self-isolation.
The comments section exploded with ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’, and people wanting to adopt one of the adorable fur balls in the video. However, the kittens aren’t quite old enough to be adopted out yet, and given the coronavirus situation, the humane society has put a hold on it’s adoption services until further notice.
So the kittens will remain in foster care for now, until they’re ready to be adopted and it’s safe for the humane society to reinstate adoption procedures.
At least we know there are lots of offers for a loving home when the time comes!
The Georgia Aquarium shared a video of the visit on their YouTube channel, and it went viral with almost 400,000 views!
This is the premium content YouTube needs.
The kittens are overwhelmed with joy running around the aquarium. They don’t know whether to look at the sea creatures, play with each other, or mischievously into more of the building.
They’ve never seen so many fish in one place – they may never have seen any fish before at all!
Some swipe at the glass, trying to catch the colorful fish behind the glass.
Others sit and stare up in awe – marvelling at the ‘sea’.
It’s easy to feel like the world is falling apart at the moment, but these beautiful stories bring joy and hope during hard times.
Watch the video below to see the kittens explore the aquarium – prepare for your heart to melt!
