4-year-old rescue dog steals hearts conquering agility course in a way that’s all his own
Who doesn’t love seeing dogs being dogs? When you can let them run free off-leash at a park or the beach, they exude such happiness. If you know that look, this video of Kratu the rescue dog will have you smiling the whole way through.
The video takes place in 2018 at the Crufts competition in the United Kingdom. Kratu, who’s full name is Baron Kratu Von Bearbum, was brought to the agility competition by their human handler Tessa. Together they have been training for this moment since Kratu was rescued at 18 months old.
Now being 4 years old, Kratu was ready to show off all the hard training they have been doing.
Tessa and him are up, and he already appears a bit distracted. They are introduced by the event announcer and off they go. Kratu makes the first jump as instructed but completely disregards the next one.
I already love this dog so much!
The broadcast announcer Peter Purves, can’t help but laugh. He clearly enjoys the dog’s free-spirit. While Kratu is enjoying the freedom, Tessa is trying to get his attention to continue to make a couple of more jumps.
Then, maybe it is the pink shirts, but Kratu heads right over to a group of ladies sitting on the sidelines. Maybe he thinks they have a treat for him. He wags his tail in hopes the humans will show some attention. The crowd is enjoying the performance quite a lot at this point.
As Kratu gets back on course, the dog weave is coming up and based on the previous challenges before, it doesn’t seem that Purves has much hope for the dog in completing it.
“Can we get him in the weave? I shouldn’t think so for a second”
As Tessa and Kratu walk right by the weave.
Next is what could be the highlight of the course, the speed tunnel. Typically dogs fly through this and meet the handler on the other side. Not Kratu. He heads into the tunnel and as we wait for him to come out the other side, he manages to turn around and come back out the same way he came in.
Pretty impressive to turn around in the tunnel. Not much room in there.
“He jumps his jumps at full height… if you can keep him on the course. He couldn’t care less could he?” – Peter Purves
It looks like a casual day at the park and they sure are having fun just like one. They make it back through the tunnel correctly and its time to turn around. The right way this time.
Tessa guides Kratu back through the course, hitting a couple more tunnels and few more jumps. He actually hits this portion of the course pretty flawlessly. Only after some jumps, he heads over to meet another staffer and that makes everyone smile.
Purves remains optimistic about the performance the whole time and there is no doubt it is a very entertaining version of the course.
“[Kratu] is an emotional support dog. The reason Tessa gets up in the morning.” – Peter Purves
If practice makes perfect, we’ll be seeing Tessa and Kratu in another year at the course. But for all 800k viewers that have seen this video on YouTube, I think many would say its already, perfect.
Try not to smile while enjoying the full video below.
