Dogs have always been man’s best friend.

They protect us and offer infinite amounts of love and loyalty.

In addition to their willingness to provide companionship, the most beautiful thing about dogs is that they will never judge you and will always be happy to see you.

Unfortunately, not everyone treats them properly.

This was the case with Herschel.

Herschel was a gorgeous German Shepherd who was poorly treated by his owner and spent the first five years of his life being neglected. In fact, he was chained up most of the time.

Different studies have revealed this can severely damage a dog’s physical and psychological well-being.

Herschel was living a nightmare.

This German Shepherd’s situation was so terrible that he almost destroyed his bottom teeth since he regularly chewed his chain. He was simply trying to escape from his nightmare.

Fortunately, Herschel was rescued and brought to a shelter.

A woman who lives in Washington eventually decided to adopt him.

Adopting an adult German Shepherd is quite difficult because of their large size, but the woman decided to save him anyway.

Even when Herschel was living in Los Angeles, California, his new owner decided to make the trip to meet him and then take him home. However, there was a little change of plans that would eventually become a highlight for Herschel.

Enter Rocky Kanaka, a man who truly cares about dogs.

Soon after Herschel got rescued, he was visited by actor Rocky Kanaka, the man who started the famous #DogsDayOut. This is a beautiful initiative that helps abused dogs to find new owners, and even provides a beautiful service whose goal is to give these dogs the best day of their lives.

Rocky takes abused dogs out for delicious meals and fun experiences.

Taking dogs for trips is actually quite beneficial for their health. In fact, this activity can improve their cardiovascular fitness, strengthen their muscles, and especially decrease their stress.

Rocky asked Herschel’s new owner to meet at Redding.

The plan was to take Herschel to that city and drive the three of them to Washington. During the trip, Rocky would make sure Herschel would experience the best moments of his life thus far.

He sang songs to Herschel, brought him to the snow, and even gave him his first burrito. However, the best was yet to come.

Herschel saw the ocean for the first time.

At one moment, Rocky suddenly stopped the car off on the coast so the German Shepherd could take his first view at the ocean. It was love at first sight.

After barking a couple of times, Rocky got him out and his reaction was simply beautiful!

He bit the waves, jumped into the water, and expressed his gratitude with loving eyes.

Herschel was overwhelmed with happiness, as he knew that the nightmare was over and that his joyful trip to Washington was the beginning of a new life – the life he’d always deserved.
