Rescue dog reunites with prisoner who helped save him in heartwarming video
Seeing a reunion always gives us a special feeling.
It’s even more thrilling when the get-together is between two friends who found a special bond in prison training.
Dog prison training is an incentive program.
Prisoners train shelter dogs.
Participating in the program could get them a reduced sentence and motivate them to reach their goals.
The core idea of the program is to also train shelter dogs so they can be adopted out.
It’s a win-win for everyone involved.
Pavlov was a rescue dog.
The Philadelphia Animal Care and Control Team (ACCT) took him in from the street.
He was then enrolled in the recidivism reduction program by New Leash on Life.
That’s when Pavlov met Steven Morales.
Steven formed a unique bond with Pavlov.
Morales was surprised when he was asked to train a dog.
He had no idea how to educate Pavlov and was overwhelmed by how fast he moved.
Little did he know how special he would be to him and how much he would change his life.
They bond over everything.
The two became best friends immediately and would do everything together.
After two months of being together, Pavlov was obeying Steven without hesitation.
This gave Steven confidence enough to train Pavlov.
Their accomplishment made his stay in prison shorter, and he was soon allowed an early release.
He decided not to adopt him.
Steven had difficulty letting go of his newfound friend but knew he couldn’t take him because of his unknown life after staying in prison.
Morales decided to let Pavlov move back into the shelter with no secured job or home.
He made the best decision for his friend so he could have a great future ahead.
Pavlov was adopted eventually.
The trained dog met his loving owner, Marina Andersson, and they clicked immediately.
When Marina saw a Facebook post about Pavlov and Steven, she instantly reached out to him.
They became close friends, and now she always sends him photos of Pavlov.
Upon seeing Pavlov’s situation with his new owner, Steven was relieved and happy to know his friend was doing well.
Marina let the friends meet again.
Pavlov and his owner went to Philadelphia ACCT where Morales works as an animal control officer.
Steven thought he was being filmed, but he didn’t know that Pavlov was already waiting outside to surprise him.
He was happy to see his dog friend after a long time of being apart.
The rescued dog was also beaming with joy to be reunited with his trainer.
Their connection is undeniable.
Marina said to The Dodo,
“Pavlov definitely does remember him. Steven obviously remembers a lot of Pavlov’s little quirks and everything. I do feel they have the connection still.”
Steven was happy with the surprise.
Marina is also happy to see that the two friends were able to bond again after years.
