‘Depressed’ dog who had babies taken away finds joy again when she meets new teeny animals

Backyard breeding can be very traumatic to the animals, especially the mothers.

Often their babies are taken away from them at a very early age. Sometimes they are even taken away immediately.

Imagine how frightening it is for mama dogs to give birth to puppies only to have them taken away.

She doesn’t know where they’ve gone, if they’re safe, or if she’ll ever see them again.

Belle’s story

This is a story about a dog named Belle who was being used for breeding purposes by a backyard breeder.

Her puppies were taken away from her but her mothering instinct stayed strong.

Belle eventually escaped and ended up in animal control where she was rescued by the organization, No Dogs Left Behind.

Stephanie Easley fosters Belle

Stephanie is a foster parent for No Dogs Left Behind and took home Belle and a small chihuahua named Winston who was rescued along with him.

Unfortunately, Stephanie noticed that Belle was not very friendly with people.

Belle would growl if someone got too close and Stephanie didn’t want her small children around the dog.

However, over time Belle would learn there are some good humans out there that she can trust.

Belle eventually learned to trust Stephanie and her husband

Every night after Stephanie’s children went to bed, she and her husband would sit patiently near Belle and wait for her to come to them.

They didn’t want to pressure her but rather gave her the space she needed to be comfortable.

Eventually, Belle began to trust the family and warmed up to them.

Stephanie began feeling comfortable having Belle around her children as well.

Belle’s mothering instincts are put to good use

Belle’s maternal instincts were always there, even after her babies were callously taken away from her.

As a result, Belle felt compelled to take care of small animals as if they were her puppies.

Stephanie’s family also has pet bunnies, and Belle just decided it was her job to protect, care for, and love those bunnies.

Belle mothers the bunnies

Belle became the bunny protector. When they would start to wander somewhere Belle felt was too dangerous, she would nudge them in a different direction.

If Stephanie or her husband tried to touch the bunnies, Belle would howl at them.

Sometimes Belle would just hang out and cuddle with them too.

For all intents and purposes, Belle became the mother to the bunnies.

When dogs love bunnies, everyone wins

While there are limited scientific studies backing this up, most experts agree that the more dogs love bunnies, the better the world is.

Not only is the relationship good for the bunnies and the dogs but everyone who witnesses it is left better off as well.

The sheer level of adorableness is just an all-around great thing for society.

If everyone started their day by witnessing a husky mothering a family of bunnies, the world would be a much more wonderful place.

Sometimes the best way to feel better is to do good for others

Belle had a really tough start to life. Being used for breeding purposes can be very traumatic for animals.

Perhaps part of Belle’s coping strategy is to give back to others and provide love and care for small animals in a way she was never given the chance to for her babies.

Belle is leading a wonderful life now. She has family, love, and purpose.

There is nothing else that any of us can ask for.
