Loving animal rescue helps woman diagnosed with cancer care for her four elderly dogs
Your pet loves you unconditionally and will always be there for you. But what do you do when you are sick and can no longer be there for them? Diagnosed with stage-4 lung cancer, Linda had to change her life completely, moving from her home in Florida to her sister’s home in Rhode Island. However, also affected by her recent diagnosis were her four elderly Chihuahuas.
Linda has to decide what to do with her dogs
Not knowing what the future held for herself, it was even more uncertain for her beloved dogs Scaredy, Brewsy, Suzy, and Runty. Regardless, Linda was determined to do what she could for them. But she was aware that she wouldn’t be able to care for them as they needed and would require a new home.
A typical animal shelter was out of the question
Linda was loath to send them to a normal shelter where they would more than likely be euthanized. Even worse would be to send them somewhere where they would spend most of their time in a cage, a situation she wanted to avoid at all costs. Hoping for a miracle, Linda and her sister searched for a potential solution – and that was when they found Vintage Pet Rescue.
Linda contacts Vintage Pet Rescue
The organization was just what Linda was looking for. Contacting Kristen Peralta, founder of Vintage Pet Rescue, Linda asked if she could take her four dogs. Of course, Peralta said yes. She did have one condition, though, she still wanted to consider the dogs hers even though she could no longer care for them.
Scaredy goes back to Linda
Scaredy was able to go back to Linda and live with her. He now provides her the help she needs in the form of moral support, helping to keep her spirits up during her battle with cancer. Vintage Pet Rescue hopes that all of Linda’s dogs will eventually be able to live with her again. Until then, however, she can rest assured that they will be well taken care of.
“I would safely say she [Peralta] helps save my life a little every day with my dogs and all the rest, too,”said Linda. “There are no words to describe her kindness and her amazing ability to take care of them all and love them all.”
