Rescue pit bulls’ loyalty is tested when 4 burglars break into new owner’s home

Robert McGowan from Conroe, Texas, can tell you everything about how incredibly loyal dogs can be.

In 2020, McGowan’s two pit bulls, Ladybug and Ellabelle, saved his life by scaring off four men that attacked poor Robert. To make things worse, McGowan was caught off guard at his home. Thieves dared to enter the garage and demand the car keys.

Who knows what would have happened if there weren’t brave puppies Robert had adopted shortly before the incident occurred. Keep reading the story that, once again, proves how dogs earned the nickname “man’s best friend.”

Ellabelle and Ladybug have been through a lot.

Both dogs were abandoned and neglected for most of their lives. They ended up in a shelter, and people didn’t want to adopt them because of so many prejudices regarding pit bulls. Despite being considered aggressive, McGowan saw the beauty in these two pups. He decided to give Ladybug and Ellabelle a warm, loving home.

“They’re very docile and timid,” Mc Gowan told The Dodo. Luckily, Robert did a remarkable thing when he rescued the two doggies from the shelter. Little did he know that they would repay the favor sooner than expected.

One night, Robert was at his garage when something terrible happened.

It wasn’t the first time Robert stayed late at night in the garage, tweaking his car. He never even bothered to close the garage door because nothing bad has ever happened. However, four men came out of nowhere and immediately started kicking him.

“One just punched me straight in the eye,” McGowan said. “I was knocked off my chair.” One of them asked for the car keys. Injured and disoriented, Robert said that the keys were inside the house.

Burglars didn’t know that two pit bulls were also inside the home.

As soon as they opened the door, Ellabelle and Ladybug sensed that their dad was in danger. They jumped at the attackers, scaring them off. “They chased them out,” McGowan said. “My girls ran into the garage and stood over me.

They stood there barking, making it clear that no one was going to hurt me anymore. The four people took off.” Well done, precious girls. You showed those bad guys who’s the boss.

Nothing was stolen from McGowan’s home.

Thanks to his pit bulls’ quick reaction, Robert didn’t suffer any further injuries. Four men left the place without taking anything. To reward his two babies, McGowan bought them toys and a lot of treats. We’d say that it was completely deserved. Undoubtedly, Ladybug and Ellabelle saved the day. We think their example will make people rethink adopting a pit bull. That’s what McGowan wants, too.

“They are rescues. Unwanted dogs. They saved my life,” he wrote. “Please consider adopting a rescue. They might save your life too.” Opening your home and your heart to a rescue dog might be the ultimate good deed. Our furry friends need us, and they’ll know how to appreciate your love and kindness.

Why do pit bulls have a bad reputation?

According to Pamela Reid, vice president of the ASPCA’s Animal Behavior Center in New York, pit bulls aren’t naturally aggressive with people. However, they are less tolerant of other dogs than other breeds.

For decades, pit bulls have been used in street dog fights, which contributed to the wrong image. Most of us perceive these gentle, loving animals as violent and dangerous. It’s quite the contrary. Pit bulls are strong, athletic, and protective pets. When properly socialized as puppies, they can become your best companion.
