Rescue pittie turned into a foster fail after instantly becoming BFFs with family's dog
When Wags and Walks rescued Opal, everyone was heartbroken with how the pittie looked.
The poor dog looked like she had gone through some difficult times. Everyone agreed that it was painful to see.
Because the pit bull mix was in such bad shape and had so many medical difficulties and injuries to overcome, the rescue began looking for a foster home where Opal could rehabilitate and recuperate right away.
Brianna, who walked to the rescue, fell in love with Opal the moment she laid eyes on her. Right then and there, she knew she wanted to take her in as a foster.
“The second I saw her, I was like ‘That’s my dog,” she recalled.
Opal was a stray who was hurt by a car before being taken in by Wags and Walks, at least as per Brianna’s belief. But the canine showed that she truly is a warrior. Opal was a gentle, loving dog who only wanted to be cared for, despite her injuries.
When Opal arrived at Brianna’s house, she instantly made friends with Duke, the family’s pit bull.
Despite the fact that they were divided by a baby gate, the two became great friends and would try to play with each other through the gate on a regular basis.
Brianna was taken aback by the dogs’ quickly developing relationship, but she couldn’t allow them to play together because Opal was injured and needed to rest.
Brianna eventually agreed to let the two puppies hang out together as long as they didn’t play. She didn’t want Opal to become enraged and hurt herself, but she couldn’t keep her away from Duke for much longer.
“They were all over each other,” Brianna shared to The Dodo. She even said that the pups instantly hugged and cuddled with each other.
After 5 long months of recovery, Opal was finally ready to play. Her muzzle was removed, and the vet gave her the all-clear signal.
Opal’s newfound independence only served to enhance her friendship with Duke. They were able to not only hug and be together but also to run and play! It was such a dream.
However, because of this, Brianna started contemplating her original plan. To recount, her plan was to foster Opal until she recovers so the rescue can finally find her a forever home.
Brianna realized she wouldn’t be able to separate them. The bond they’d formed was far too strong. Opal was about ready to be adopted, but Brianna decided to keep her instead of letting her go.
Turns out, the sweet dog’s forever home is found in the arms of Brianna and Duke. Nobody’s complaining though!
She became a foster failure and is now living her greatest life with a loving family and her bestest friend Duke.
This is the only type of “failure” we definitely don’t mind hearing! May there be more and more foster failures out there because pets deserve all the love in the world.
