Rescued Pitbull saved from dogfighting finds love and comfort in gigantic bunny
When this rescued Pitbull met a giant bunny, they found the most unlikely friendship with each other.
Mindy Hayes of Erie, Pennsylvania brought a beautiful and fluffy Flemish Giant Rabbit in their home last 2017. She named her Sophie and she immediately felt at home. Though, Mindy was very careful in introducing Sophie with her dogs.
Hayes already had 2 pet dogs, Sadie and Grace. The two-year-old Pitbull named Grace was a rescue pup. Her life before she was rescued was very sad.
She was once used for dogfighting, something that made her life miserable.
After they had used her for dog fights, they realized she was no longer an asset so they just left her tied to a tree. Leaving her to whatever fate awaited her.
Good thing there was someone who was able to report and rescue her before it was too late for the poor pup.
Her life was something out of a nightmare.
After her rehabilitation, Mindy Hayes and her husband fell in love with Grace at the shelter.
They knew they couldn’t leave without her, so they adopted her and brought her home to have a new start.
Sadie and Grace went along just fine. Grace, even after what she went through, was able to bounce back to being a happy and gentle Pitbull.
However, Mindy still thought that rabbits and dogs didn’t get along, which is why she was a bit hesitant to introduce Sophie to her 2 dogs.
What she didnât expect was that Grace would welcome Sophie the bunny wholeheartedly!
âIt was an instant connection,” Mindy told The Dodo. âThey sniffed one another, and they just blossomed from there.â
The rescued Pitbull and the big fluffy rabbit became best of friends.
Grace would always be with Sophie. Mindy felt so happy seeing Grace grooming Sophie and seeing them spending their time cuddling with each other.
It was all too sweet!
âI canât keep them apart,â Mindy shared. âGrace is constantly following Sophie, laying with her on the couch and licking her head. Grace would groom Sophie until she is sopping wet if I let her!â
Right away, Sophie and Grace knew that they would be best friends. It was surprising but also very touching to see.
Most people who hear about their story would be shocked at first. For them, it was definitely an unlikely friendship.
âGrace had a very rough start to life,â Hayes said. âBefore she was rescued she had been used for fighting and then was tied up to a tree, left to fend for herself. Knowing where she came from and to see her be so loving to everyone, especially to a rabbit, is really spreading awareness to who these dogs really are. They are not bad dogs. She wants to be friends with everyone she meets.â
We totally agree! Even if Grace had a tough start in life, she didnât allow this experience to change her.
She was still a soft doggo who looking for a loving family to care for her.
These photos of Sophie were taken when she was just 11 months old. She may look huge but sheâs still a baby! By now, she may have already grown up to 20 pounds!
Indeed, Mindy Hayes and her family are so lucky to have these pets in their home. In fact, we might even learn a thing or two from these best buddies.
