Man returns to adopt puppy he rescued and the dog is overcome with excitement when he sees him
The number of animal cruelty cases is reported every year is shocking. Believe it or not, there are approximately 6,000 documented cases of dog abuse each year and that number doesn’t include unreported cases. Fortunately, there are still people who work hard to give dogs the life they truly deserve and the love they need to grow healthy.
Joey Wagner, a marine from Nova Scotia, considers himself an animal lover.
With a real desire to help animals, he joins rescue missions and programs to ensure their safety. One particular rescue mission left a mark on him.
In 2012, Joey received a call regarding a seriously abused and neglected 3-month-old pit bull mix puppy.
The moment he laid eyes on the poor dog, he knew he needed to act fast. The dog, who they named Mojo, was clearly a few hours away from death at that time.
The dog was covered with mite bites.
Apart from that, he’s suffering from severe malnutrition. He was extremely thin. He has lost all his fur as well. The place he was living in made his condition worse.
Joey acted right away.
He immediately took the dog to a clinic. There, he was carefully examined and treated by a veterinarian.
Upon seeing Mojo, the vets were quite alarmed.
His condition was so bad that they weren’t sure if he’d survive. He was so thin. Plus, his demodectic mange was super bad.
Joey learned about Mojo’s story.
The dog used to be a bait in dog-fighting circles and that caused his horrible condition. It was clear that his former owner deprived him of love and care. The more Joey learned about the dog’s story, the more he fell in love with him.
Fortunately, Mojo is a fighter.
He fought hard to survive and eventually, he was able to completely recover. He gained back his confidence and he grew stronger.
Because of his progress, he was cleared for adoption.
However, because of the life he had, the people in the center didn’t want Mojo to go to just anybody. They wanted to make sure that the dog will be able to enjoy life with people who’ll truly take care of him. They needed to make sure that the person who’ll be taking Mojo will be taking him forever.
The staff had the perfect person in mind.
They called Joey and told him all about Mojo and his recovery. Since he was his lifesaver, it only made sense that he take him home- and he did!
When Mojo saw Joey, he jumped right into his arms!
The dog quickly showed gratitude to Joey for saving his life. He even showered him with lots of puppy kisses.
Today, Mojo is a happy dog living his best life.
Although his coat never completely returned, it didn’t bother him or his family. For them, Mojo is full of love, joy, and hope. He’s happy with his siblings and he has endless love for Joey and the rest of the family. Plus, he’s healthier now. For someone who saw what the poor guy went through, seeing him doing well is what’s important.
