Rescuers find poisoned dog seizing on side of road and go above and beyond to save him
According to PetMD, there are over 232,000 cases in the United States each year of dogs being poisoned.
While these are most often cases of a pet accidentally ingesting something they shouldn’t have, there are also plenty of cases where humans purposely poison dogs by leaving toxic items in an area for them to eat.
This is the story of one dog who barely survived being poisoned earlier this year.
If it wasn’t for a truly remarkable group of rescuers, the poor dog would likely have succumbed to the poison.
The man in the video regularly travels to this area to feed and care for vulnerable dogs. On this particular day, he found a dog seizing on the side of the road.
“On February 22, 2021, when we were about to return home, we met this dog, I called him Franka.”
“This little soul was dying from the poison, this society was truly morbid.”
The rescuers set out to help the dog but there were safety concerns, as dogs experiencing seizures can often lash out and bite.
“First we had to tie Frank’s muzzle back because he was biting in pain, otherwise it would be very dangerous for us.”
The man in the video regularly carries the medicine needed to treat dogs who have been poisoned.
This is ultimately what would end up saving Franka’s life.
“Fortunately, I always carry the necessary medicine to detoxify Franka.”
“Franka’s life would be very dangerous if left more than 5 minutes later.”
The rescuers gave Franka the medicine needed to reverse the effects of the poison. Franka was clearly in pain still, but over time, his situation improved.
“After nearly 30 minutes of struggling and running against time, I think we helped him out of his crisis.”
He was taken home by the man in the video so that he could be cared for as he healed.
“I don’t think he understood what happened to him and where he was. But he clearly was being cared for.”
Franka wouldn’t eat in the days that followed.
By the second day of Franka’s recovery, he was still quite weak, unable to stand, and only able to drink milk.
“Franka was still weak, unable to stand up, the boy was still unable to eat or drink except milk.”
On day 3 of his recovery, Franka was given intravenous fluids to help build his strength since he was not eating.
“The danger was almost gone, but he still had a healing process ahead. He would have to re-learn how to eat, drink, walk and trust people.”
By day 4 of his recovery, Franka started to show real progress. He started to eat and drink on his own.
It had been a harrowing few days for him but Franka had survived. He was also now in the hands of people who truly cared about his well-being.
“He was doing really well. He could eat and drink by himself without help. He started to notice other friends in my house.”
Franka survived the ordeal and found himself in a friendly environment with caring humans and other animals.
Thankfully, there are kind-hearted animal lovers out there who work tirelessly for vulnerable animals like him.
