Rescuers find Golden Retriever wandering beach and can’t ignore massive lump on his stomach

Most dogs are too precious for this world, giving love and devotion despite their situation. So, when an owner mistreats their pet, it makes it that much worse.

That’s what happened with Henry, a golden retriever, who was found sad and alone, wandering a beach in California.

“We got a call that there was a dog that was dumped on the beach. So, when we went, we got him, and we went, ‘oh my gosh,’” Valerie Schomburg, a Newport Beach Animal Control supervisor told KTLA 5.

The tumor was making it difficult for the golden retriever to walk and use the bathroom.

The tumor was pushing on Henry’s leg, making it difficult to lift it. Animal Control Officers with the department took Henry to a local animal hospital.

Initially, the vest the police talked to were unwilling to help Henry, saying it was too risky, Eventually, though, they were able to find someone to remove the tumor.

The next hurdle was finding the funds to pay for the surgery. After appealing to the public, enough donations came in to cover the cost.

“He has too much love, and life to live, that we wanted to give him a chance,” Schomburg said.

The surgery was a success and the tumor was removed. Now, it was time for Henry to recover. In addition, police were now looking for the person responsible for abandoning him in such a horrible state.

“Just very shocking that it got that big, and that someone wouldn’t do the right thing,” said Schomburg. “Whoever did this to Henry might have to answer it.”

Henry’s previous owner was found and charged with two counts of animal cruelty, one count of animal abandonment, and one count of interfering with an investigation.

The owner would eventually get probation for her crimes.

Henry’s problems multiply, but there is hope

As for Henry, unfortunately, the tumor turned out to be cancerous.

On the plus side, the cancer hadn’t spread anywhere else and was a slow-growing type of cancer meaning it would be easy to find and remove if it ever returned in the future.

Henry is loved and cherished by many
