Retired farmer converts tractor and barrels into a dog-train for the homeless dogs he rescues
When Eugene Bostick retired, he had no idea how to fill the days. Luckily, the stray dogs of his city gave him a reason to live.
For many years, Eugene Bostick of Fort Worth, Texas, had worked diligently and saved up a decent amount of money. So he retired and wondered what to do next with his life.
But he would find the answer in his barn one day.
The horses in his barn were making a commotion, so Bostick went in to see what had upset them.
Panting in the barn was an ill-looking dog. Clearly, someone had snuck into the barn and abandoned the creature.
This was not the first time it had happened. So Bostick did what he always did. He brought the dog inside and fed him. After eating, the dog had regained a lot of strength and was looking much healthier.
Soon, Bostick took the dog to the vet, just to be sure that the dog was ok. Usually, Bostick would take the abandoned dogs on his farm to the shelter. But this time, he realized that the animal’s life would be happier at home on his farm.
So he drove the dog home and kept him around.
Over the years, more people abandoned dogs in Bostick’s barn. And Bostick kept every single one of them. Most of them were and are able to live long and happy lives in Bostick’s company.
Bostick’s retirement has been long and happy, thanks in many ways to the dogs that have come into his life. Anyone who visits Bostick and the dogs can see that the retiree is doing all that he can to keep them happy.
In fact, his dog entertainment solutions have become downright creative.
“One day, I was out, and I seen this guy with a tractor who attached these carts to pull rocks. I thought, ‘Dang, that would do for a dog train.” Being a retired farmer, Bostick had his own tractor that had been idle for years. But now he saw a way to repurpose it for his new lease on life.
So Bostick got some plastic barrels, got some wheels, got some other parts and got welding. In no time at all, he had constructed a dog train. It has to be seen to be believed.
Every week, he loads up the train’s carriages with his dogs and takes them on a ride from his farm and into the city. He currently has nine dogs, and they all love seeing the world beyond the farm. Often, Bostick will stop at a creek and let his dogs enjoy the new environment for a while before loading them back up and driving home.
“Whenever they hear me hooking the tractor up to it, man, they get so excited.” – Eugene Bostick.
In fact, the dogs love riding on their tractor so much that some don’t have to be picked up to get into the carriages. Instead, they leap inside!
In Forth Worth, Bostick and his dog train have become something that the locals look forward to. Everyone is excited whenever they hear a tractor driving nearby.
The dogs that Bostick takes in are lucky indeed. They literally have gone from being unwanted to adored, not just by Bostwick but by everyone who sees them in the train.
