Retired K9 has the most emotional reunion with her former handler

K-9 dogs hold unique importance in their communities.

Their services can sometimes be overlooked, but truth be told, their responsibilities are just as important as their human counterparts. Police dogs are trained for a variety of missions and circumstances. From apprehending fleeing criminals to drug enforcement searches, K9 units work diligently to complement the police force. In fact, when anything happens to them in the line of duty, they’re treated with just as much reverence as an officer. And it’s the special connections they make with their officers that really seal the deal.

Get your tissues ready, we’re sharing something truly heartwarming today. And it’s bound to hit you right in the feels.

Their reunion was captured on video and shared by Xichuan Police on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok. Upon seeing her handler, Wangwang immediately ran up to him and rolled around in excitement for belly rubs. It’s clear to see that she hasn’t forgotten one moment of their partnership.

At one point, the sentimental K9 even appears to be crying – and she’s not the only one! This surprise reunion is a happy moment for everyone.

The video is captioned: ‘Wangwang’s hair is turning white but she is well fed, she is getting fat.’

Wangwang was blessed with a forever home following her retirement, but that meant getting separated from her handler. One day, he decided to give his beloved furry friend a surprise visit while patrolling her neighborhood.

As soon as the excited pooch sees him she darts through the door and runs into his arms. The affection is real!

Douyin users flooded into the comments, appreciating the wholesome encounter for every drop. One person penned, ‘The dog is welling up. Dogs are really loyal companions, please treat her well!’ And a second wrote, “You can tell how much Wangwang misses her handler. You can understand when the dog greets you belly up.”

Many more comments inquired as to why the dog was unable to stay side-by-side with her handler – their connection a very obvious one. Xichuan Police responded to the comments, explaining that it comes purely down to time constraints.

“Police dogs are generally well fed at the training center but our officers could not dedicate their time to play or exercise with retired dogs,” and added that retired police dogs will be “better looked after” by a family rather than the training center.

One watch and this video will be tugging at your heartstrings! It’s evident that WangWang still remembers her handler, and misses him very deeply. But as she rests her paws after several years of service, she is surely living her best, retired life with her new family.
