Some think that famous people never experience the things that everyday men and women face. This story shows that we’re all the same.

Have you ever gone to the store or somewhere like that and forgotten your wallet or had your card declined? Almost all of us have. It happens to everyone, even the rich and famous.

Ruth Reed is a retired teacher who looks out for others.

Despite her many years of nurturing children and being generally charitable, she made it her New Year’s resolution to help others when they need it.

One day, Reed went to her local grocery store, picked up her essentials and got in line. In front of her was a young man who looked a little familiar. But Reed couldn’t quite place him.

Then the man tried to pay for his groceries. But time after time, his credit card kept on getting declined.

Reed, remembering her resolution, told the man in front of her that she would pay for his purchases.

The man tried to tell the woman no multiple times, but Reed wouldn’t hear of it.

So Reed paid, and the man put a $5 bill into the donation bin. On the way out of the store, Reed explained to the man her resolution.

The man asked Reed her name. After Reed had answered, the man said that his name was Keith. That’s when Reed realized who the man reminded her of. She said, “You look like Keith Urban.” He responded, “Well, I am.”

At first, Reed couldn’t quite believe it. She even told him ‘No you’re not.” But he said again that he was.

Still, Reed couldn’t quite believe that the man she was talking to was the world-famous country musician. So Urban said that he would get his assistant, who was in the parking lot, to confirm it to her.

Reed reasoned that his assistant wouldn’t lie to an old lady. When Reed got to the assistant, she saw that she was also with Urban’s manager and bodyguard. By now, she finally realized that the man must genuinely be Keith Urban.

So Reed asked Urban for a photograph, and he gladly obliged. In the photograph, you can see that Reed still can’t quite believe who she was with:

Urban had really taken a shine to Reed. So he decided to do something nice for her. He arranged for Reed, her son and her daughter-in-law to got to his upcoming concert.

Pretty soon, word of Reed’s encounter started spreading.

Reed didn’t want to make herself seem like an extraordinary person. Instead, she used her five minutes of fame to tell others the importance of being kind to one another.

Reed started appearing on TV. And on every single appearance, she used her time to tell people to look out for others and lend a helping hand when they need it.

“I’ve come to realize that sometimes we don’t notice and appreciate the little kindnesses that happen to us every day. Sometimes, we need to appreciate that more.” – Ruth Reed.

Reed is a very humble person. But everyone who sees and hears her can tell that she really deserves to be praised for her generosity.
