Footloose is a popular movie that brings a good dose of nostalgia to anyone who has watched it. When you picture the scenes from the movie, the last thing you’d have in mind is a dancing police officer.

Luckily, we’re big fans of anything slightly incongruous, and it’s almost as if Officer Cory Burrows made this video just for us! He’s served the city for a full thirty years and isn’t afraid to admit that Footloose is one of his all-time favorite movies. Not only does Burrows love dancing, but he’s also actually known around town for his moves.

After being in his job for so long, it was time for Burrows to retire. He didn’t want to leave quietly, though – he wanted to cement the moment in history forever. In the video, Burrows steps out of his police car and is quick to say what an honor and a privilege it has been to serve the community. It seems like a normal farewell speech – until Burrows then tells the camera he’s going to cut loose one last time.

Viewers are left wondering what on earth he could be on about, but all soon becomes clear! Burrows jumps out of his squad car and gets started on his own rendition of the famous Footloose dance.

The officer’s dancing is remarkable to say the least, and unsurprisingly, the video went viral and quickly made its way around social media. There’s certainly reason for Burrows to celebrate his last ever shift, and he dances with clear jubilation, waving his arms in the air and shouting, “I’m done!”

Thirty years is a long time to serve in such an important job, so we can’t blame Burrows for wanting to make his last day as memorable as possible. Apparently, his idea came about after a conversation he had with his wife. The two of them decided it would be pretty hilarious if Burrows used his favorite movie to bust a few moves and sign off in style.

It’s easy to see why the video was so successful. After all, police officers have a bit of a rep for being super stern, so it’s always nice to see an example of a cop who isn’t taking life too seriously!

In an interview with FaithPot, Burrows said that while he has enjoyed serving his community for so long, he’s more than looking forward to his well-deserved break.

His wife, Lisa, agreed, adding that it would be strange to have him at home, but that the video made her feel emotional for the job he was leaving behind. She joked that she couldn’t be sure whether this was simply because from now on, she’d be stuck with him at home all day and night!

The couple is looking forward to their retirement, and we’d imagine Burrows has already lined up a few Footloose movie marathons for the future.

We were also treated to some inside gossip by Lisa, who commented under the video that this dance was a much tamer version of what she was used to, as he usually ends the number by doing show-stopping splits at the end. If this is true, we feel as if the video may need a sequel!
