Golden Retriever deescalates cat-fight by dragging buddy out by scruff of his neck
It’s always awkward when your friend gets into a fight. Not only could they get hurt, but it’s also embarrassing to be there and watch.
If you’re the confident type, you can be the friend who breaks up the fight yourself. Nothing was ever resolved through a physical confrontation anyway.
This Golden Retriever got the honor of being “that” friend.
Caught up in an altercation between two cats, the Retriever spends a bit of time pondering how to deescalate the situation.
Retriever breeds are great at stress relief and therapy, but I don’t think deescalating tension is what they were bred for.
That doesn’t mean they can’t try, though.
It starts out with a shouting match.
That is usually how fights start. Someone says something to tick you off, and suddenly you’re about to throw hands.
Seeing how the other cat’s got a dish with food, we can take a not-so-wild-guess and say that cat number 1 wanted to freeload on it.
As for where this is all happening, it’s hard to say. You can make out some sliding doors, a smooth tile floor, and some loud dance music in the background.
It could very well be a shopping mall. Seems like these cats are having a good old shopping mall brawl like a bunch of 90’s teenagers.
And just like teens, they couldn’t resolve it without making a scene.
As the shouting started to get a little more intense, the cat’s Golden Retriever buddy decides it might be time to step in.
Why exactly are cats so fond of getting into confrontations and disputes? Well, blame nothing more than the social needs and attitude hardwired into them.
Cats are typically solitary and independent.
They don’t really like being introduced to new faces without a bit of easing in.
So, throw two cats who don’t know each other onto the same turf, and you’ll get a pretty similar result to this.
But this might be the funniest conclusion to one we’ve ever seen.
This is also why getting a cat to share the household with more people and pets is always hit or miss. They’re used to flying solo, not sharing a ride.
Of course, it’s possible to train them to get along with others. It just takes time.
Well, this one’s clearly not the sociable type.
His Golden Retriever buddy is right behind them going all “Hey guys, break it up, please”.
The Retriever picks the cat up by the scruff and escorts him away.
Good move. That could have gotten ugly, you know? What a great doggo to look after his friend like that.
Once they’ve left the scene, it’s anyone’s guess what happened afterward. Maybe the dog gave his friend a very stern talking to.
Perhaps about resolving things without violence. After all, he does look like the diplomatic type.
I hope this cat doesn’t get into any more trouble. If he does, he best hope that his friend doesn’t get tired of breaking up fights and saving him.
Either way, the whole scene is definitely chuckle-worthy.
