Community mourns the passing of K9 Loki, partner of late North Carolina officer killed in the line of duty
It’s been three years since the passing of Officer Jordan Sheldon, a respected officer from the Mooresville Police Department.
Officer Sheldon was killed on duty in November of 2019.
His life was taken by an armed driver during a routine traffic stop. Officer Sheldon was only 32-years-old.
The late officer’s legacy and memorial have already been covered in length. Though one part of his legacy that deserves some attention of its own was his K9 unit, Loki.
Loki was a loyal German Shepherd dedicated to his role. His years of service alongside Officer Sheldon are well-known to the Mooresville Police.
Now, Loki can meet his best friend once more. The bittersweet news of Loki’s passing made the headlines recently, as broken by Sheldon’s K9s.
Officer Sheldon and Loki were paired together way back in 2015. The German Shepherd didn’t exactly pass his entrance exams with flying colors.
As a puppy, he had somewhat of a reputation for being stubborn and difficult.
Though that’s nothing some hard work and training couldn’t fix. As much of a headache as he proved to be, Loki eventually learned the ropes.
This was how he came to be the dog that Jordan Sheldon would trust with his life.
The pair weren’t just partners at work. Even outside of their shifts, the officer trained and played with Loki as he would any family dog.
Officer Sheldon even said that he wished for Loki to live the life of a normal, happy dog when his years of service were over. Fortunately, his wishes came to be true. But he didn’t live to see them.
Loki outlived his handler, something no dog should ever experience.
But their job was a dangerous one. Both officer and dog knew what they were signing up for. When officer Sheldon passed, his friends and acquaintances founded Sheldon’s K9s.
It was to be a charity organization to help dogs just like Loki. In life, Officer Sheldon already talked about this idea. He wanted to give back to the loyal companions that looked out for him.
Those running the organization did so proudly. It was the least they could do. I’m sure Loki appreciated it too.
Now, they run things in honor of Loki too. The loving dog passed away on January 30th, 2022. He was 12 years old.
Mooresville police department has a lot to remember about Loki. The 12o-pound German Shepherd had paws bigger than some people’s hands. His stubborn puppy years proved hard to forget too.
When Officer Sheldon died, Loki spent his last few years with his family.
One could hardly ask for anything better. There, he lived with Rampage, another loving dog who called officer Sheldon his dad.
Those 3 years without Jordan Sheldon to call his name are over now. The loyal, precious Shepherd can rest now.
They left behind a lot of family and plenty of memories.
