In 2015, a woman by the name of Darci Miller suffered serious burns on her arm and shoulder. She is currently in the healing process, but it hasn’t been necessarily easy.

“I am a burn survivor from 2015,” Miller said. “It has been up and down but this particular day made me feel really good about myself.”

The day that Miller is referring to is the day that she and her fiancé, Jason Costello, decided to take a trip to the Indiana Zoo.

While the couple thought they were just in for a fun day out and about, they had no idea that they were about to share a very significant and moving moment with one of the animals in the facility.

Who knew that animals cared so much about the people coming to visit them? This moment showed that some of the animals are capable of empathizing, and some of them do recognize what is going on — it is beautiful.

Miller and Costello were wandering around the orangutan area of the zoo when Miller decided to walk up to the glass, where she would then meet Rocky the orangutan (a very special one, if we do say so ourselves).

When Rocky saw Miller, he came up to meet her at the glass and started motioning towards her arm and shoulder area, right where the burn scars were. He was communicating that he saw them and that he knew that she was hurt.

“The orangutan was completely interested in my burn scars and recent surgery sights,” Miller said.

Rocky continued to signal over to her marks. It was obvious that he knew what they meant and what was going on. While there wasn’t much he could technically do, it was obvious that he was trying to help in a curious way.

Luckily, Costello was there to catch the whole interaction on video. Rocky points at Miller and waves her to turn and reveal her burn marks. While he does all of this, he keeps eye contact and looks at her with much determination. He wanted to do whatever he could to help and in his mind, this was it. He was noticing her and seeing her.

According to Miller, it’s been a rocky road ever since she got the burns — but this moment with Rocky definitely turned that around and was a moment to remember.

Ever since the video was uploaded by the couple, it went viral on the Internet. The world simply can’t handle the cuteness and the pureness of Rocky, who was just trying to help the woman.

Sure, Rocky couldn’t really help too much, but he definitely made an effort. He did everything he could do to show his support and needless to say, he definitely left a wonderful impression on Miller and her fiancé.

Just goes to show that no matter who you are or what you look like — or even what species you are — we can all love and support each other. What a wonderful way to spread joy.
