Rodeo clown taunts cop but pays the price when his K9 partner shows up

It’s a good thing that most police officers have a sense of humor. Because what rodeo clown JJ Harrison did might raise a stink otherwise. In a bid to entertain the crowd at the rodeo where he works, Harrison delivered a stellar performance that, by the end of the night, had everyone in stitches.

As his performance started, Harrison pulled up in a police car. According to the clown, he had stolen it from the parking lot outside and was feeling proud of his accomplishment. As he searched through the back of the police vehicle to try and determine who it belonged to, he made a shocking discovery.

The police car belonged to Sergeant Brad O’Neil of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office. This was bad news for Harrison, as the announcer reminded him how he had embarrassed the officer a few nights prior by making him dance during the rodeo. Chances were, the police officer wouldn’t be so quick to forgive the misbehaving rodeo clown for a second time.

Harrison was prepared, or so he thought

Fortunately, Harrison had prepared ahead of time and had hired a security person, named Franz. As Franz came out onto the dirt wearing a thick suit, he rolled a barrel out with him. Harrison then challenged Sergeant O’Neil to come out and get his car. The police sergeant quickly obliged and came out to face Harrison and Franz.

As Harrison continued to taunt the officer, O’Neil was joined by his K9 partner, Nero. Nero quickly charged across the dirt as the crowd roared in excitement. Launching himself, he tackled Franz to the ground. Meanwhile, Harrison, in typical rodeo clown fashion, had retreated to the safety of his barrel.

Sergeant O’Neal quickly ran over to regain control of Nero. It was a show after all and he didn’t want anyone, especially Franz or Harrison to get injured in the light-hearted performance. Harrison hadn’t stolen O’Neil’s police car; he had only been pretending to set up the hilarious exchange.

The crowd loved it and Nero, as demonstrated by his excited jumping around seemed to enjoy the experience as well. The whole performance was an attempt to get Nero into the arena to give the K9 some recognition for all that he does for the department and the community. Playing the part of Franz was O’Neil’s fellow K9 handler, Sergeant Coleman.

As for Harrison, he has been performing at rodeos for a long time and has become quite good at it. He has earned the reputation as one of the best entertainers on the pro rodeo circuit.

“The call of rodeo is constant, it’s such a great sport and way of life,” Harrison told Montana Sports.
