Succulents have become popular in recent years due to the low amount of maintenance they require coupled with a high aesthetic appeal. What more could you ask for in a plant companion? Not only do they forgive neglect, but they also come in a wide variety that’s sure to have something to please everyone. Different shapes, sizes, colors, and leaves give succulents an abundance of character.

While some succulents look like dolphins, and others look like rabbits, we’ve found a whimsical contender that looks like it’s come straight out of a fairytale.

Meet the Mountain Rose succulent.

It may be a rather rare variety, but it is just too beautiful not to adore. The succulent resembles a rose-flower, and it may just be the forever-blooming solution to your backyard.

According to World of Succulents and Shared:

“The rose succulent is botanically referred to as Aeonium dodrantale or Greenovia dodrantalis. This evergreen, perennial succulent features densely packed leaves that resemble the layered petals of a rose in bloom, and look like something straight out of a fairytale. Native to the Canary Islands in Spain, the Mountain Rose grows as stemless rosettes typically in clusters, giving off the appearance of a natural bouquet of roses. Forget roses that wilt away after a few days, the Greenovia dodrantalis is your answer to a year-round bouquet in your garden.”

A beauty in and of itself, the Mountain Rose succulent prefers moist shade conditions to grow in. Their preferred growing season is from winter to spring.

However, this succulent can survive in hotter temperatures as long as they aren’t excessive. During the dry season, this plant will go dormant to preserve water, pulling all of its leaves tightly inward. This plant can be cultivated indoors or out.

And if these green romantic rosettes aren’t enough to pull you in, there’s also a beautiful pink variety that looks exactly like an actual rose.

These would look exceptional grouped together in a planter to create that always and forever bouquet of roses we’re all dreaming of. If you were to make this type of arrangement, pups (otherwise known as offsets) would more than likely form and you could propagate your own mountain rose.
