The sorrow Guapo felt after being abandoned by his family was heavy.

So much so that you could see it on his face.

But it’s the dog’s melancholy mug that helped him find a new, loving forever home, turning that frown upside down.

“Guapo was an owner surrender, as most of the dogs at the shelter are. But he seemed to take it harder than most. He was the embodiment of what our dogs feel every day, and his expressive eyes and face told his story better than we could,” Orange County Animal Services said in a post.

Guapo’s very sad face went viral after he was featured in a promotional video for the shelter.

Guapo, who is 2-years-old, was the first dog shown in the video.

The video went viral after people were taken aback by Guapo’s super sad face.

“Guapo was finally being seen,” Animal Services wrote in post.

Guapo had been hiding and kept being passed by in the shelter as he continually hid behind his kennel mate.

He wasn’t all that interested in the people that passed his kennel by. But lots of people became interested in him once that video went viral.

“The response we received for him was overwhelming,” the shelter said. “People came in by the dozens to see Guapo, and we received a ton of email requests for information on this poor sad dog,” Animal Services said.

The perfect family for Guapo was found and they were very eager to take him home.

And Guapo was just as eager to go home with them.

“After just a few minutes in the play yard with his new family, we started to see a different look on Guapo’s face. A slow and shy smile, and a light in his eye that only comes from hope and happiness,” Animal Services wrote on Facebook.

Guapo’s entire demeanor changed. His iconic sad face was no longer so solemn.

It was both an internal and external transition for Guapo.

“He seemed to realize something was different. He wagged his tail and laid close to his adopters, calm and at peace, probably for the first time since he arrived. Guapo knew he was going home.”

According to Fox 35 Orlando, Orange County Animal Services, located in Orlando, Florida, currently has more than 700 animals in its care.

That includes 383 at their shelter and 319 in foster care.

About 114 animals were recently brought into their care in a single day.

“Animal surrenders are one of the toughest things for us here at OCAS to understand,” the shelter wrote on Facebook. “We know there are times when people are faced with genuine dilemmas and emergencies. We know there are truly heartbreaking reasons why someone may have to give up a dog. But the reality is, most of the reasons we hear when people surrender don’t really make any sense to us.”

The organization also became intensely busy after Flordia’s recent hurricane, which displaced many animals.
