Two sanitation workers save a 10-year-old girl after hearing about her abduction on the news

Sanitation workers are unsung heroes, and they’ve always been even before the pandemic. We’d all be a lot sicker if our local sanitation workers weren’t regularly taking out nasty trash and waste that could otherwise infect people.

Getting rid of the trash is a tough, dirty job. But someone’s gotta do it.

Even better if you get to dispose of a trash person, like these 2 did.

It began when on an unfortunate Sunday afternoon in Louisiana, a 10-year old girl was abducted from her home. An Amber Alert was sent out by the police of New Iberia. Louisiana is a big place, but with the word out, the chances of finding her could become astronomically larger.

Thankfully, there were two huge things that helped narrow things down.

Police knew the suspect’s name, and the vehicle he was driving. They were looking for a Mr. Michael Sereal in a Nissan Altima. So Louisiana’s residents knew to keep their eyes out for any suspicious looking Altimas on the road.

With a broadcast like that, paired with some pretty helpful clues, even the most ordinary of people should be able to spot the suspect if they crossed paths.

Ordinary people like Dion Merrick and Brandon Antoine.

The pair are sanitary workers. They happened to be out on their shift on a Monday when they drove past a Nissan Altima. While any hundreds of people in Louisiana could be Altima owners, this Altima was parked right in the middle of a field.

And being a 4-door economy sedan made for the city, the middle of a field is a very strange place to find one.

It doesn’t take a master detective to know when something is off. Dion Merrick told his coworker, Brandon, that this was almost definitely the car that Amber Alert broadcasted about. Fortunately, they had a huge truck with them.

“I told the guy who rides with me, that’s the car. I pulled forward and backed up to block the entrance and then called 911.”- Dion shared.

Abductor, meet sanitation worker.

With their massive truck blocking off the car, they called the police. It didn’t take more than a minute before they were on scene. Who wants to bet Mr. Sereal wasn’t counting on being ratted out by 2 guys in a garbage truck?

Naturally, Dion is quite proud of what he and Antoine accomplished. He repeatedly says “We saved that little girl!”, and I’m sure we can all feel his joy. His livestream is now sitting at 87,000 reacts on Facebook.

That you did, guys. That you did.

Of course, Mr. Sereal was being quite soggy (get it?) about his arrest. Watch the replay of Dion’s livestream, and you’ll hear the suspect shouting “Why are you doing this to me?”.

I don’t know, man, maybe because you abducted a little girl?

He got his comeuppance, obviously.

Sereal was taken to New Iberia, and registered as a sex offender. As he should be. That’s one less dangerous person roaming the streets, all thanks to two humble sanitation workers who took out a piece of human garbage for once.
