Flying can be very scary. Even though there are countless planes in the sky at any one time and the vast majority make it to their destination without any issues whatsoever, many people just can’t quite handle the concept of flying through the sky at super-fast speeds in a big metal box.

People who fly often gradually get used to the feeling of being up in the air, but if you haven’t flown for a while, even getting on board can feel quite terrifying.

That was the case for one old lady who found herself on a flight from San Diego to Nashville. Another passenger named Megan Ashley, pictured below told the story of what happened to this frightened grandma and how her seemingly scary flight actually turned into a wonderful experience!

It all began when the 96-year-old lady took her seat and a male passenger sat down next to her. As the plane prepared for take off, the visibly frightened grandma asked the man if he wouldn’t mind holding her hand to calm her down.

It had been 15 years since the old woman’s last flight! She was traveling all the way to Kansas City to spend time with her family and celebrate her birthday.

The guy could have said no or just called one of the flight attendants over to help the old lady out. Instead, he happily obliged, offering the woman his hand and letting her squeeze him tight as the plane left the ground and soared into the air.

But the story didn’t end there! As the flight continued, it encountered some turbulence and the little old lady was still quite scared the whole way through.

Fortunately, her new hero was there for her the whole time.

He let her hug him during the turbulence, he spoke to her when she was feeling scared to try and calm her down, he helped her out of her seat to use the restroom, and he kept an eye on her as she walked down the aisle to ensure she didn’t trip or fall.

In short, this guy was the perfect gentleman. Or should we call him a ‘flight angel’ instead?

That’s exactly what Megan called him in a post she shared on Facebook. She snapped a photo of the scene, showing the old lady gripping onto the man’s arm, and told the whole tale to her friends and followers.

“This man was her flight angel,” said Megan, explaining how, even when the flight landed, the guy took the time to get the woman’s bag, help her off the plane, and wait around with her until she was reunited with her daughter. We don’t know the guy’s name or anything else about him, but what we do know is that he’s a true hero and a wonderful human being.
