Scared pit bull shakes in the shelter – inches out when he hears a voice and finds his soulmate
Not all dogs do well in animal shelters. And while these locations are a great short-term solution to a bigger problem, shelters can leave some dogs feeling very stressed out. The environment at a shelter can be especially hard for a dog who has come from a home.
A pit bull, named Carson, is one of these dogs. He came to the shelter after his family decided to give him up. He was so scared in the shelter that all he did was lay in a corner and shake uncontrollably. He wouldn’t even take time out to rest. Fortunately, someone was about to show up and save him.
Carson is taken in by a kind soul
Rescue group, Philly Bully Team, had heard about Carson and how scared he was. One of their volunteers, named Lauren, felt very sorry for him. Signing him out of the shelter, she took him home with her.
There he could hopefully feel safe enough to relax and not be so frightened.
Lauren and Carson were a match made in heaven
From then on, Carson was always by Lauren’s side. The grateful dog went everywhere with her. As a dog rescuer, Lauren knew that some dogs, like Carson, needed comfort around the clock, and that is what she gave him.
As time went on, she realized that the two were a match made in heaven, so, she decided to adopt him.
Carson is always by Lauren’s side
Now, Carson never has to leave Lauren’s side. He likes to lay right on top of her, which can make it hard to get things done at times, but Lauren doesn’t seem to mind. It’s easier for her since she works from home, but, still, a 60-pound dog can make it hard to work, especially when he is on her lap most of the day!
In addition to snuggling with his new owner, Carson likes to go on walks with Lauren. She says that while out he likes to find a big stick and walk around with it in his mouth. Lauren also noticed that he seems happier now and is no longer scared like he was in the shelter. This is most evident in his tail wags.
According to Lauren, his whole body moves from side-to-side when he wags his tail. Carson especially likes to wag his tail after they get home from their walks, jumping up on the couch while doing so. Then it is cuddle time with Lauren.
The importance of adopting a dog
Carson is a perfect example of why it is so important to adopt from a shelter as opposed to buying a dog in a store. Shelters work hard to find loving homes for the dogs that they take care of. Still, overcrowding means that such organizations are unable to take in as many dogs as they would like.
