School breaks gender stereotypes by teaching young girls car maintenance and DIY skills

Who said that in school you can learn only traditional subjects such as math, literature, and science? Apparently nowadays schools start teaching more creative and practical things to their students, helping them acquire skills that might be useful in the future.

Car maintenance and even in general mechanics are associated mainly with the male gender. It’s hard to escape from some stereotypes, especially those related to genders that are deeply etched in our social consciousness.

In this way, the school is actually not only helping the young girls to acquire useful knowledge but also empowers them and enables them to react with self-confidence and maintain their composure during a difficult situation. Moreover, it actually breaks all the stereotypes about girls and car mechanics that have been going around forever. Who said that only boys can change a tire?

Let’s applaud Stella Maris College for their initiative and let’s urge more schools to follow their example in educating young girls on how to be independent and resilient young women. It’s not easy to be a woman in today’s society, as a matter of fact, it never was.

But, it’s so refreshing to see girls being treated equally to boys and considered capable of dealing with something so trivial as changing a car tire.
