Sea lion gets to walk around and visit all of his oceanic friends while oceanarium is closed
The Coronavirus has halted life all around the world, leading to closures of everything including zoos and aquariums. Many people were left worrying about all the animals and their care. Until videos started surfacing of life for the animals during the shutdowns. First, it was the precious penguins at the Shedd Aquarium, now, it’s one adorable sea lion who was taken on a much-needed field trip.
Meet Birri Junior, a sea lion at the Sea World in Australia, who went viral for his trip around the aquarium during Coronavirus shutdown
Sea World in the Gold Coast, Queens Land, Australia, was forced to shut down during the global pandemic at hand, but it’s not all bad for the animals at the marine mammal park, oceanarium.
The sea lion got to visit some of the other animals and boy was he happy! Accompanied by an experienced trainer, the pair went around the park saying hello to other animals and you can tell he was thrilled.
After Sea World posted a video of a trainer taking him on an adventure through the park, the internet lit up for the lovable creature
With all the usual people in the facility gone, Erin, a sea lion trainer at the Sea World Aquarium, took Birri Junior on a field trip to visit some of his friends in the popular theme park.
“Welcome to the adventures of Birri Junior part 1. Watch on as Birri Junior visits his scaly friends at Shark Bay. Joining our handsome boy was Erin who is one of our passionate trainers at who is constantly coming up with enriching activities to keep the animals in our care mentally and physically stimulated. Make sure to give him some love and stay tuned for part 2.” Read the Facebook post.
Birri Junior is so excited to see his Sea World friends’, he jumps up on to the railing and leans over it
He’s just so darn adorable, he rests his flippers on the railing while he looks at the underwater aquarium exhibit. Birri Junior is having the time of his life, he completely forgets about the treats Erin is holding once he sees the other animals.
After that, Birri Junior lets out some big sea lion yelps, before waving goodbye. The video quickly went viral, leaving many viewers excited for part two. The video has been viewed over 130k and shared 530 times so far. Hundreds of people also left comments on Facebook, expressing how much they needed this.
Birri Junior isn’t the only animal who got an adventure. Two penguins at a Chicago aquarium got to roam freely during the Coronavirus shutdowns
The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, let these two penguins wander around. The curious sea birds went exhibit to exhibit, greeting other animals and even wandered up to the information desk to take a look! I’m guessing we will see more zoos and aquariums doing this in the near future.
This is wonderful, seeing animals being treated so well during these rough times is extremely uplifting. I can’t wait to see part two of Birri Junior and his trainer Erin.
